So marijuana can help increase intimacy during sex

Not many studies have been done on personal marijuana use, let alone the effects the plant can have on couples. Nonetheless, over the years and with increasing interest in the subject, a variety of cannabis products have appeared aimed at people’s sex lives.

On the whole, marijuana appears to improve sex, especially for women, who often associate cannabis with more intense orgasms, more arousal, and greater sexual satisfaction. A study published in the journal Sexual Medicine shows that the more a woman uses cannabis, the more likely she is to have better overall sex with less pain and discomfort.

Another study finds a major difference between alcohol and cannabis during sex. The study, published in the journal Cannabis, claims that, unlike alcohol, cannabis has a positive effect on couples when consumed together, increasing the likelihood of intimacy and providing more opportunities for bonding.

The study was small and collected data from only 183 married or cohabiting couples, all of whom reported being active marijuana users. The study’s authors asked couples to monitor their cannabis consumption over a 30-day period, with participants reporting their pre- and post-cannabis experience on their smartphones.

Couples were asked to write a short report each morning indicating whether they had used marijuana and whether they had had an “intimate experience” with their partner, and the time of that encounter. The definition of an intimate experience in the study was broad, ranging from sex and meaningful conversation to interactions that expressed love, support, and care.

After the 30 days had passed and participants ‘contributions to the study were complete, the researchers analyzed the data and found that smoking cannabis increased the couples’ likelihood of an intimate experience, especially within two hours of consuming the plant. This heightened intimacy persisted even when only one partner used marijuana, disproving other studies that claim personal drug use is stressful in a relationship.

The dosage of cannabis is key to any positive sexual encounter, as too much of it could lead to a negative sexual experience and heighten effects like paranoia and fear. It can also lead to drowsiness and disorientation.

To understand the full extent of marijuana’s impact on relationships and intimacy, more studies need to be conducted, particularly those that focus on larger samples of couples and monitor their progress over time. Still, the majority of cannabis users tend to enjoy cannabis and sex together, suggesting that any discomfort is likely related to the dosage and that there is little room for significant negative side effects.
