September 2023 Leafly HighLight: Premium Funk strain
Get ready for a first class flight without ever having to wade through security.
Highly tolerant connoisseurs of offbeat flavor and rocketing effects have propelled the award-winning weed strain First Class Funk into the top 250 most popular strains in Leafly’s 6,000 strain database. This September, First Class Funk appears on over 1,700 pharmacy menus across the country, up 70% from last year.
So keyword for the bass solo – First Class Funk is our Leafly HighLight flower for September 2023.

This is not sugarweed for beginners. First Class Funk lives up to its name with premium, sharp diesel and pepper smells and tastes. The bite of chemistry, the body of cookies, the gas of kerosene and the creamy grape of gelato create a funky beat on your tongue.
A Leafly reviewer writes, “Has this real earthy moist taste with hints of sweet and gas, very easy on the lungs.”
With a successful pedigree in GMO Cookies and Jet Fuel Gelato, First Class Funk grows into huge buds and sheds hash for the extract heads. “This is hands down the best GMO hybrid,” says one Leafly reviewer.
Whether it’s flower, pre-rolls, bubble hash, live resin, live rosin, dabs or carts, First Class Funk leaves reviewers euphoric, happy and talkative. First Class Funk receives an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 after 36 reviews. We added the strain to the database in 2022.
Reviews show that it has high levels of THC in both recreational and medicinal terms.
WOW! I’m totally high!!!
Leafly reviewer
Another review said: “My migraines went away. My depression and anxiety went down dramatically and I felt relaxed and didn’t have to over-analyze everything.”
Of course, depending on the mix of cannabinoids, terpenes, and dose, THC can either calm or induce anxiety; Start small. Or not. One Leafly reviewer writes, “I just love how it makes me anxious while also helping with my anxiety.”

If you have received a packet of original, unopened First Class Funk seeds – congratulations. We’ve seen packages fetch as much as $1,000 in sales or auctions.
FCF gets big, heavy and stinks. It hails from the Chris Lynch era of Compound Genetics. Lynch now breeds as Cipher Genetics and is currently working on Z-crosses. Compound Genetics subsidiary Node Labs can likely produce FCF clones from its tissue culture library. FCF is so new that there are not many hybrids of it. For more variety, you need to resort to crossbreeds from the parents, GMO or Jet Fuel Gelato, or the breeder. Notably, parent product Jet Fuel Gelato features in the award-winning La Bomba and new Hype Gummiez.
Awards for first class radio
First Class Funk is among the winners of pot contests, as are his parents. First Class Funk or his parents have placed first, second, or third in flower or extract contests every year for at least three years.

It’s the 2022 runner-up leaf strain, a strain to watch for in 2023, and we featured it on July 4th.
Premium funk terpenes

First Class Funk’s main odor molecules are all hot and pungent. Lime Bites. Caryophyllene blows in the fuel. Pinene is a forest therapy. These terpenes are in contrast to a floral linalool strain like Blue Dream or a sweet terpinolene strain like Durban. The terpenes agree with user reports that this is a mildly energizing strain.

GMO cookies

When it’s time to eat mo’ cookies, smoke GMO cookies. The stinky parent of First Class Funk continues to be popular due to its cross between GSC and Chemdog and its potent high-THC effect. GMO is among the top 50 most popular strains in the US, so don’t miss out on this smash hit.
headband

Wake up during a camping trip with this spicy diesel and lemon strain and bake, pair with a cup of coffee, then roll a joint for later when you’re out. Headband descends from Sour Diesel and OG Kush and is a cousin of First Class Funk through OG and Chem.

Find more diesel, pungent Skunk weed in a strain that’s about twice as popular in stores as First Class Funk – Grease Monkey. It really makes you sleepy when it’s time to get rid of your fears and get out. Exotic Genetix selected Grease Monkey from a crop of GG4 x Cookies and Cream. Both First Class Funk and Grease Monkey share the same Chem and Cookie lineage.
