Santa delivers weed, courtesy of Emjay

Santa Claus is coming to town – this year packed with cannabis shipments available at locations in Southern California. Give the gift that almost everyone wants this holiday season: weed.

For the period from December 19th to Christmas Eve on December 24th, Emjay will dispatch a cannabis delivery courier dressed as Santa to deliver orders throughout Los Angeles and San Diego. It’s one of the most creative Christmas sales gimmicks we’ve seen in the cannabis retail space in a long time.

In the spirit of the holiday season, Emjay is trying a different marketing approach this year, giving the company and its leadership a chance to be extra festive.

“We’re always looking for ways to use the Emjay platform to enhance people’s cannabis experience, and as such we’re excited to have holiday-themed couriers delivering orders to our customers this holiday season,” said Chris Vaughn, CEO of Emjay. “Having Christmas couriers is an exciting and festive addition to our offering and to keep our customers happy at this time of year.”

Emjay encourages customers who receive a Santa delivery to take a picture of them and tag Emjay’s Instagram account via Stories (which is provided in Meta’s Instagram Community Guidelines). If you do, Emjay will DM you for a free gift on your next purchase.

In addition to the opportunity to receive a Santa Claus courier, Emjay also offers curated holiday Kushmas bundles with $144 or more of products for sale for $80, discounts on select products, and grocery and toy promotions, giveaways, and customer appreciation days to her physical stores in Los Angeles and San Diego.

Kushmas packs come in several reindeer-named options: Rudolph, Comet, Blitzen, Dasher, Donner, Prancer, etc., each with a mix of flowers, edibles, and other cannabis products. They offer high-end cannabis products from brands like Lowell Farms, Kurvana, and so on.

Founded in 2019, Emjay has grown to become one of California’s leading cannabis delivery and retail platforms. Emjay also opened retail locations in Los Angeles and La Mesa, California. One of the company’s main selling points is offering prices that are comparable to the prices you would see at a pharmacy counter.

“… Whatever you choose, it will be delivered by one of the most professional couriers in the business,” the company’s website reads. “For us, the whole experience counts – from the way you look at our curated product listing to how they end up in your living room. All the grass. No markup. A better experience. Because we are Emjay and we are the best cannabis delivery service in the world.”

Santa Claus roots

Christmas marketing gimmicks are nothing new, especially in the cannabis industry. High Times Magazine has explored the subject extensively – usually when someone dressed as Santa Claus gets into trouble. In North Pole, Alaska, voters rejected a measure in 2015 that would have banned pharmacies in the city.

There may even be a psychedelic connection between Santa’s origin story and psychedelics. In the December 1979 issue of High Times Magazine, the publication’s late counterculture correspondent Glenn O’Brien explored the connections between Santa Claus and a specific species of psychedelic mushroom: the toadstool, also known as the toadstool that took over the universe. In fact, O’Brien argues, Santa’s very existence could be linked to a shaman in Lapland eating Amanita muscaria.
