Responsible Vs. Reckless Weed Use: This THC alcohol tester knows the difference
Now that marijuana is legal in a growing number of states, the use of THC breathalyzer – a thing that has been debated so extensively that it has almost become an urban legend – is essential. After several false starts and delays related to pandemics, their introduction into the world seems imminent.
Hound Labs, based in Oakland, Calif., Is preparing to launch its Hound Marijuana Breathalyzer, a device that can detect the THC molecule in the breath. The Hound Breathalyzer received a boost from an unlikely source: COVID-19. The device was developed as a product for the detection of pneumonia. However, after the outbreak of the pandemic, the company switched to detecting COVID-19.

“Hound Labs developed the COVID-19 breathalyzer based on the same highly sensitive technology platform that we use for the Hound Marijuana breathalyzer, which will be released later this year,” said Dr. Mike Lynn, CEO of Hound Labs, told FOX43.

According to Hound Labs, the breathalyzer can clearly distinguish between responsible and irresponsible marijuana use. This distinction cannot be made from urine and blood tests, which can show results dating back up to three months. This new device shows marijuana use over the past three hours, usually the time it took to get a high. It can be used by police officers and corporations who screen their employees for drug tests to make sure they judge people fairly.

In the past few years, several companies have worked on marijuana breathalyzers, which they now consider important as federal marijuana legalization approaches.
While there is no way to measure stoned driving without a device like a THC breathalyzer, states like Washington, Oregon, and Colorado saw car accidents rise 6% after legalizing marijuana. Having a device that can distinguish marijuana use from other behaviors will help police officers determine the correct course of action and make users more cautious when ingesting THC and behind the wheel.
