Research finds several benefits of rare cannabinoids

By Margaret Jackson

As the medicinal benefits of cannabis continue to be explored, researchers are beginning to understand that the cannabinoids found in the plant go well beyond what most people know: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive cannabinoid in the marijuana plant, and cannabidiol ( CBD), a non-psychoactive compound believed to relieve pain, relieve anxiety, and induce sleep.

But with more than 200 known cannabinoids and increasing research, cannabis users are increasingly interested in what are known as “rare cannabinoids,” although it is still unclear what benefits they might have.

Cannabinoids induce beneficial effects by interacting with the human body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which regulates sleep, appetite, mood, memory, production, and fertility. Endocannabinoids are molecules that the body makes to keep internal functions going. They connect to endocannabinoid receptors found throughout the body to tell the ECS that it needs to intervene. Enzymes break down endocannabinoids after they complete their mission.

Rare cannabinoids work as a complement to endocannabinoids, and to date there have been more than 50 clinical studies of their benefits.

Rare cannabinoids like cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN), and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) are said to have more beneficial medicinal properties than THC and CBD and do not contain the psychoactive properties of THC.

The research and development team at Grove Inc., a Henderson, Nevada-based innovator in the hemp and wellness industry, manufactures a full line of plant-based products with a focus on sustainability and customer satisfaction. The company’s team of organic farmers, biochemists, biochemists, mixologists and food scientists are pioneers in the wellness industry.

While Grove has focused on extracting CBD from hemp, it is researching how some of the rare cannabinoids can be used to promote wellbeing.

CBG, for example, is known as the “mother of cannabinoids” and is said to fight inflammation, pain and nausea and even slow down the multiplication of cancer cells.

Studies have shown that CBN, a cannabinoid produced as THC ages, may be a powerful antibacterial agent that could be used to fight off infections that common antibiotics cannot cure. It has also been shown to stimulate appetite, relieve glaucoma, and reduce inflammation.

CBN may even be a neuroprotective agent that can be used to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease according to the baseball player diagnosed.

THCV is being studied as a cure for weight loss and as a treatment for obesity. It is believed to decrease appetite, increase satiety, and boost metabolism. It is believed to be effective in controlling type 2 diabetes.

Grove’s acquisition of VitaMedica, an online nutritional supplement seller, on August 5, 2021, will enable Grove to compete in the vitamins and nutraceuticals market to meet the health and wellness needs of consumers while keeping the company deeper immersed in the introduction of rare cannabinoids into its products. It combines Grove’s innovation in manufacturing with VitaMedica’s line of products recommended by thousands of physicians and serving more than 1 million patients, creating a network that Grove can leverage for clinical trials, studies and ongoing research into the hemp plant .

“Our team at Grove has won a great company with an amazing line of products that has had sales of more than $ 10 million over the past few years and we believe it has the potential for exponential growth from here,” said Allan Marshall, CEO of Grove at the time of the acquisition. “At Grove, we are most excited about the team members we have with Dr. (David) Rahm, Yvette LaGarde and their entire team have won. I believe that the people you bring in acquiring a company are of vital importance to the success of the combined company. “
