Report: 39% of consumers plan to take time out from work to celebrate April 20th

A recent report released by AYR Wellness discovered shifting trends and the popularity of cannabis use activities on April 20th. More than 900 cannabis users between the ages of 21 and 74 were asked a variety of questions between February and March.

According to David Goubert, President and CEO of AYR Wellness, the study sheds new light on the growing popularity of cannabis. “Our April 20 poll proves that the unofficial cannabis holiday continues to hold a special place in the hearts of consumers, with nearly 40% planning to take the day off work to celebrate,” Goubert said, according to Forbes. “The data also revealed some compelling insights into how people prefer to consume cannabis – from who they consume, to the formats they prefer to use it with – that AYR can leverage to create more meaningful interactions with our customers.”

Goubert pointed to the statistic that 39% of participants said they planned to meet on 4/20. to take a break. In addition, 31% of the participants indicated that April 20 is a “special occasion” (and notably 42% of medicinal cannabis users also believe that the 420th is a “special day”).

However, 71% of the participants stated that their consumption habits changed on April 20th. will not change, while 23% said they plan to use more cannabis than usual.

Of those who said they wanted to party, 70% said they were interested in trying drinks or drink boosters. The April 20 events return in full swing this year after the dangers of the pandemic have subsided and sales are expected to break more records. According to data collected by Akerna, last year $485.3 million was raised in cannabis sales over the entire period between Friday April 15th and Wednesday April 20th. A recent Fortune report predicts that the cannabis industry as a whole could reach as much as $35.5 billion by the end of the year and about $57 billion by 2028.
