“Beets are unique because of their cardiovascular and heart-healthy benefits,” says registered dietitian Sarah Thomsen Ferreira, RD. “Due to a combination of compounds found in beets, they may promote blood flow, improve artery health, lower homocysteine levels, and reduce LDL cholesterol.”

Beets are an excellent source of antioxidants, which is why you'll find them in most juice shops. And they pair great with marijuana, as they both give off a rich, earthy flavor. Beets and cannabis both help with inflammation, which is another benefit. And finally, it's a great way to relax and focus so you can make the most of your day.

Beetroot lemonade
By Danielle Guercio
Ingredients (Makes 2 servings)
- 4 lemons
- 4 small turnips (or one medium/half a large one)
- ½ tsp glycerin tincture*
- 2 tablespoons sweetener of choice (I used Demerara sugar)
- 1 inch piece of fresh ginger (optional)
- Water (carbonated or still)
- Ice

Cut the lemons and squeeze the juice into a jug, collecting the seeds through a sieve. Quarter the beetroot and dip in lemon juice, adding a little water if necessary to ensure they are covered with liquid. Slice the ginger if necessary and add. Leave to steep for at least 1 hour, or overnight.

Strain and add cannabis tincture and sugar and stir until dissolved. Divide the mixture between two glasses with ice. Top with water or seltzer and stir gently. For a little extra zing, garnish with a lemon peel, lemon slice and chard leaf.

*How to make a glycerin cannabis tincture:
Decarboxylate 3.5 grams of finely ground cannabis in an oven-safe container, double-sealed with foil, at 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the cannabis in a mason jar or vacuum-sealed bag, pour 2 ounces of vegetable glycerin over the top, and seal tightly. Place in a water bath at just below boiling for 1 hour. Strain and store the contents in a sterilized container. Store indefinitely in the freezer.

Infusions are easy to make and require much less cleanup than true extraction juices, but you can also juice the ingredients above and follow the same steps to add the weed. Always add your tinctures after straining the fruit or pulp, as you don't want to lose any potency.
This juice tastes great on its own and can be used as a cocktail mixer too! You can even try something fancy and make quick pickles, like onions for taco night or carrots for a fun appetizer. The lemon juice will tenderize most vegetables after a few hours.
