Puffco refines the dab pen with the new Pivot

Vaping hash is getting cooler, now with Puffco’s Pivot brand. This “dab pen” is about the size of a magic marker, but produces massive clouds of hash vapor. Read on as author Jimi Devine delves deeper.

The Puffco Peak hash vape bubbler takes credit for liberating us from the dark ages of digital dabs. However, Puffco had already taken over the dab pen market in previous years.

When its first product – the Puffco Pro – came onto the market in 2013, the wind was immediately in Puffco's sails. The Puffco Pro was a concentrate vape pen and featured advanced technology that delivered a cleaner, more flavorful experience than anything the market had ever seen. Its ease of use and quality took Puffco to the top of the mountain seemingly overnight.

It would have been hard to find someone who owned a hashish business in 2014 without having a personal collection of Puffco products. They were a must for dabbing discreetly virtually anywhere. A few years later, the electronic hashish bubbler called “Peak” emerged and made history, bringing Puffco to over 30 countries since then.

But while the Peak and Peak Pro are great, the new Pivot feels much more like an homage to Puffco's original products, with its sleek and discreet design coupled with its function.

“It has always been our goal at Puffco to normalize concentrates in a way that eliminates the fear of new consumers,” said Roger Volodarsky, CEO and founder of Puffco. “I can safely say that our devices have led to increased curiosity about dabs and provide new consumers with the opportunity to explore new forms of cannabis consumption in a user-friendly way. The pivot will only expand that.”

Puffco’s “3D Chamber” is key

The Pivot is based on the workhorse of the Puffco range, the 3D Chamber. Since its introduction, the 3D chamber has been considered the epitome of atomizer quality and durability. Since its inception, Puffco has developed every new device around this technology. It was worth it; only a few companies have been able to capture market share in recent years.

The Pivot also features the smallest 3D chamber ever.

The argument is that the quality of the experience will be identical, just slightly smaller since it's the same technology as Puffco's larger offerings.

The Pivot is also the cheapest product with a 3D chamber to date – with an MSRP of $130.

The Pivot is arguably the biggest dab pen launch in the eight years since Puffco released the Puffco Plus. The retractable spoon under the mouthpiece – the Dab Dart – has been all the rage since the Puffco Pro's original launch three years ago, along with a few other hardware upgrades.

Now, eleven years after the first pen, the Pivot has a variety of features that meet Puffco's standards of innovation. In addition to the miniature 3D chamber, the Pivot features an angled mouthpiece. This allows the hash to more easily accumulate at the bottom of the chamber, where the real magic happens while maximizing air and vapor flow.

The battery is pretty solid too. According to Puffco, you should be able to get about 15 cracks from one load. The Pivot also makes USB charging easier compared to back when you needed an adapter for the original Puffco pens.

The quick-attach 3D chambers are also available in a two-pack for $60. You can load them like ammo, so your dabs are pre-packaged and you can easily swap them out on the go.

And you know that Puffco doesn't ship a new product without accessories. With a $60 adapter you can achieve the pivot on your dab rig. Puffco is also debuting a travel case to keep your dabs and pivots organized on the go.

The pivot goes on sale to the general public on Thursday.
