Poll: 60% of cannabis users want to get high with their grandparents

Growing up, Grandpa’s breath was always louder than the television he fell asleep in front of. And Grandma was never stingy with anything but her secret stash of Grandma’s stacks. But now that we are all adults, there is no need for a generation separation between cannabis lovers.

A recent survey by food manufacturer Azuca shows that almost two-thirds of cannabis users want to be lifted off by their grandparents. As we learned from Dante Jordan in 2019: “If you ever get the chance to work with an older family member, do this shit. It will be a memory that you will cherish forever. “

Just don’t be surprised if you find that your older relatives are two moves ahead of you. A 2020 study found older citizens were among the most avid cannabis users in America, with 75% use among those 65 and over.

The old school taboos are quickly fading

It’s not just grandparents and ganja. Azuca’s “American Usage Habits and Cannabis” survey found other noticeable signs that normalization is taking place across the country. According to the results, 58% of respondents believe that “cannabis is the future of pain management”.

Of those who consume, 64% say they consume for relaxation; 40% say about pain management; 43% say for sleep aid; 37% say for health and wellness; and 39% say it is for recovery. All of these positive effects sound more attractive as you age and are a great way to talk about cannabis with your elderly relatives.

More seniors use cannabis both medicinally and recreationally, but fewer talk to their doctors about it. (iStock)

If you’re nervous about how you will react, check out recent data which shows a dramatic increase in destigma recently. From 2000 to 2019, the number of Americans advocating legalization more than doubled.

In April, Pew Research reported that 91% of US adults believe either that cannabis should be legal for medicinal only (31%) or medicinal and recreational uses (60%). That means less than 1 in 10 (8%) say the plant should be illegal for adults to use.

5 ways to bring some green to your loved one’s golden years

If you’re still looking for the perfect excuse to smoke with your grandparents, try these five ways to spark off with your OG family tree lovers before the end of the year.

1. Scary Halloween edibles

Your grandparents are probably too smart to fear ghouls and goblins, but we bet a healthy dose of a sweet edible will keep them alive in a Tim Burton movie on the scariest night of the year.

According to Azuca’s survey, 52% of cannabis users say they prefer to consume over gums, and 30% prefer chocolate or other infused goodies.

2. Prequel to a Thanksgiving festival

Would you rather smoke at home with your oldest homie? Or risk the fight for life and limb for Black Friday deals?

Spend the shopping holidays before and after Thanksgiving, Green Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving) and Cyber Monday (the Monday after Thanksgiving) by filling out your Christmas gift list and consuming conveniently. The affordable prices, quality and convenience are well worth the wait for delivery.

According to Azuca’s survey, more than half of Americans (60%) would pay more for cannabis products from a legal pharmacy even if they were cheaper to buy on the illegal market. That may have to do with why legal sales soared 71% in 2020.

4. Weekly vacation high

Almost half of the respondents (45%) said they know how to microdose. Spend a week during the extended vacation showing your elders the art of controlled consumption. Just don’t be surprised if they’re already trending – the general population understands cannabis better than ever. 70% of Americans told Azuca they know what THC and CBD are and how they are different.

5. New Year’s Eve

NYE and THC: cannabis strains for New Year's Eve

According to Azuca, almost half of Americans say they have never used cannabis. If one of your grandparents or older relatives has always been waiting for the right moment to try things out, New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to start over.

Azuca says 28% of Americans who report using cannabis report it daily, 15% monthly, 18% weekly, and 39% several times a year. So if you want to change your consumption behavior or try a different method, the first time is also a good time to start over!

the Azuca poll cited was conducted via Survey Monkey with 1,089 respondents from various geographic regions and income groups in the United States. More than half of the survey participants identified themselves as cannabis users. The survey sample was weighted according to gender and age (18+ to 60).
