Permanent Marker – MOCA, California, Fall 2024
93 out of 100 points
Price: $50 per eighth, but varies
Our choice for leaf variety of the year for 2023 was so apt that it could be named variety of the year again. Permanent Marker is now one of the top 10 varieties in the West. It is available in every modality – from Bubble Hash to Flower to Cart. Indoor soil growers MOCA Humboldt in Eureka, California, are competing with the best markers this fall. The packaging says a total THC content of 35.16%, and the iced buds look that way too.
Myrcene, limonene and linalool work together to produce the “gelato times 1,000” smell of fuel fumes. Supreme healing, freshness and flawless manicure all had a positive effect on the bud. MOCA's cut might technically be more marker-like, but only because the competition is so fierce. Maybe it's the sky-high THC, but this cut also felt racier and less chilly than the average marker. We played with a twitchy, “I’m in danger” approach rather than tuning out and giggling.
