Paul McCartney grows hemp on his farm
By Jelena Martinovic
Sir Paul McCartney thrilled us again when he revealed on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast that he grows hemp on his farm, despite admitting he must hide his crops from local teenagers who want to steal it.
McCartney said he grows various crops such as spelled wheat, rye and peas on his estate in Peasmarsh, near Rye, in addition to hemp, the Daily Mail wrote.
“We’re just starting to grow hemp. The funny thing about government regulations is you have to keep it where people can’t see it because all the kids come in and rob it, ”McCartney said.
The former Beatle insisted he didn’t use pesticides and fertilizers and actually switched to organic entirely over two decades ago.
“When I first bought the farm, there were some fields where my farm people said, ‘There are no worms in these fields. There is no life, ‘”McCartney recalled.
He also grows hops and makes his own organic ale called Old Stinkhorn, named for the stinkhorn mushrooms that grow on his property.

“We make our own ale. Over the years I’ve heard like a neighbor was selling a piece of land next to ours, so I went up to one and said, “I heard you’re selling a hop garden …” Long story short, I got it, and then I thought, ‘I have to start with the hops’ because the region we are in in Sussex was a very large hop growing area, ”McCartney said on the podcast.
As Old Stinkhorn is running out, McCartney is giving away the limited edition beer to friends.
“I just send it to friends,” he said. “We don’t produce that many, that’s more of a personal matter.”
