On the high seas? Marijuana on a cruise

Cruises have recovered tremendously from the Corona crisis with some cruises sold out for years to come. Smaller charter flights with 15 to 30 friends are also popular. This all-inclusive offering of food and fun has a lot of appeal. And now there are alcohol packages that make drinking easier and more cost-effective. But what to do if you want marijuana on a cruise?

The cruise industry is expected to have over 31 million people aboard its ships this year. This is more than the 2019 numbers showing that people are longing to board a boat and let go. Demand is so great that a new ship, the Icon of the Seas, can carry 5,600 passengers and has built the largest water park on the water.

All-you-can-eat buffets, relaxing in the sun, music, numerous ways to unwind — it seems like the perfect spot to kick back and hit some marijuana. But you have to follow the rules.

Marijuana products are simply illegal under federal law and are therefore banned throughout the fleets of nearly all cruise lines and river cruise lines. Delta-8 and cannabinoid hemp products are affected by the ban. This includes CBD and medical marijuana.

What if you brought them on board?

Norwegian Cruise Line’s policy states: “Items will be confiscated and not carried on board. If an item is found to be illegal, the appropriate authorities will be informed.”

Carnival has a similar notice on its website. It states that the cruise line “reserves the right to confiscate any items” and that “items will be removed and disposed of and no compensation will be paid.”

Some ports of call like Seattle and Canada have legal weed, giving you another opportunity to relax or stock up on supplies.

Once you know the rules, you can work out your game plan. Many seniors use medical marijuana for pain and inflammation, and people in general use it for anxiety. And some just use it for fun. If you can drink on board, maybe you can eat a jelly bean?

If you want to take it home, don’t forget the two giveaways. Don’t use anything that produces an odor. It is a clear sign of this and traces back to you very easily. And you don’t want a member of staff having to confront you in front of your fellow travelers. The second is not to be too high. Slightly strict drinking, while legal, is messy on board. Being completely stoned is not.

Think about how you will consume. Tinctures, oils, and edibles are the easiest to work with and produce the least odor. You can also manage your high better.

Don’t use a cruise as your first experiment. You may not have the reaction you want and it is difficult to react in an unfamiliar and unfamiliar environment.
