New York Cannabis Control Committee is hastily appointed by the new New York governor

Hochul has given the go-ahead! The governor of New York has listed the long-awaited candidates to lead the newly created cannabis control committee.

The nominees

Tremaine Wright and Christopher Alexander have been selected by Governor Hochul to be Chair and Executive Director of the Cannabis Control Committee, respectively.

Who is Tremaine Wright?

Tremaine Wright is a former MP who represented Brooklyn. She currently works in the New York State Department of Financial Services as the first director of the Office of Financial Inclusion and Empowerment.

The former MP was sworn in in January 2017. She served for one term in the 56th Congregation District of Brooklyn, New York. She represented her immediate parishes of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Northern Crown Heights. During her tenure, she was named chairman of the congregation’s foster family subcommittee. She also served as Chair of the Legislative Caucus for Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian lawmakers.

Ms. Wright was the Chair of Community Board 3 before applying for the office. In addition to being the chairperson, she also served as budget coordinator, treasurer and executive secretary for 13 years. During her years of service, Wright made sure she had well-established relationships with all elected officials – then and now. She was also familiar with many community leaders and dedicated residents who are committed to making downtown Brooklyn better.

Wright is a well-respected member of the public. She graduated from Duke University and then attended the University of Chicago Law School. She lives in the second generation in Bedford Stuyvesant and works as a lawyer, entrepreneur and small business owner.

She worked as an attorney in major law firms while working for Brooklyn Legal Services and a few private law firms. She is also an activist investing in building solid foundations for future generations.

Over the years, Ms. Wright has helped preserve the rich culture of her community as she used her career as a politician and lawyer to create and create opportunities for residents within and around her community. At one point she was a volunteer lawyer for an imprisoned mother’s project.

If approved by the Senate, Wright will be in charge of all agencies regulating the sale of recreational cannabis in New York.

Who is Christoph Alexander?

Christopher Alexander currently works as the Village’s Government Relations and Politics Manager. The village is a multi-state cannabis company. His main goal at Village is to connect with lawmakers and policy makers in order to find a perfect way for Village to grow its cannabis business in New York.

Alexander is a seasoned politician. His experience includes; worked as a legislative adviser to the New York State Democratic Party, acted as an adviser to the New York State Senate, while also overseeing the work of some of the committees that oversee matters relating to the criminal justice system in the state as well as matters relating to New York City as a whole . He also served as the policy coordinator for the Drug Policy Alliance.

Alexander is a well-respected reformer and criminal justice advocate. With years of legislative experience, he works with fellow advocates to end mass criminalization in the drug war. Alexander is a noted New York State attorney for social and racial justice. The veteran politician Christopher Alexander has become a champion for civic engagement over the years.

He founded the Stuart Smart NY Campaign as his contribution to ending the criminalization of cannabis in New York. He is also the lead author of the approved New York Marijuana Legalization Act, also known as the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act.

Alexander’s growth is very commendable as he is the son of immigrant parents who moved to the United States from Grenada. Its immediate parish is Hollis, Queens.

“The nomination took less time than expected”

When the governor promised to start the industry, not many believed she would do so within a month. Hochul exceeded the expectations of the majority. She may have reportedly started considering candidates when Cuomo was imminent to step down from office. Regardless of when she started her selection process, it is important that the creation of the industry has started.

After the two nominees were confirmed by the Senate, Governor Hochul issued a statement stressing how fixated she was on getting the New York cannabis industry up and running as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Hochul said the NY government has plans to make up for lost time with immediate confirmation from Wright and Alexander.

Bonus points for the appointment of POC

Governor Hochul also supported her promise to appoint board members from disadvantaged communities. Both Christopher Alexander and Tremaine Wright are black Americans who have experienced the ill effects of the failed drug war within the state.

The governor believes that both reapers have a wealth of knowledge that can be used to facilitate their jobs. Hochul added that she trusts Wright and Alexander are exceptionally good at outlining and implementing safe, fair, and transparent regulations. “I know they will see the need to correct the effects of the drug war on disadvantaged communities.”

Hochul says she looks forward to working with all board members once they are all confirmed.

The Cannabis Control Board and Cannabis Management Offices will be able to create a comprehensive regulatory framework for all New York communities. You will be responsible for the state’s cannabis industry and be in charge of all activities related to the production, licensing, packaging, marketing and sale of marijuana-derived products.

Final note

The next step will be taken by the New York State Senate. Here they will rate the other nominated members for confirmation. The state senate will also appoint a board member, the state parliament will also do this. New York recreational pharmacies could open later this year.

As soon as all confirmations are received, the process for the implementation of the cannabis sale by the board members begins.

With Tremaine Wright grading the board and Christopher Alexander serving as executive director of the cannabis management bureau, great achievements can be expected from the board.
