New York Cannabis Control Board now complete: Governor Hochul appoints regulators

New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) announced her last two appointments to regulate the adult marijuana market on Wednesday.
The newly appointed regulators, Reuben McDaniel III and Jessica García, do not require legislative approval, Marijuana Moment reported.

“The cannabis industry in New York has stalled for far too long – I am making important appointments to get the Office of Cannabis Management up and running so that it can take off,” Governor Hochul said in a statement on Wednesday.
Governor Hochul added, “I am confident that Mr. McDaniel and Ms. Garcia will serve the board with professionalism and experience as we advance our state in this new industry.”
Reuben R. McDaniel III is President and CEO of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), a not-for-profit corporation that provides funding and services to not-for-profit organizations and other New York State-affiliated institutions.

Jessica García is Assistant to the President of Retail, Wholesale Department Store Union, UFCW, a national union that represents workers along the food supply chain, as well as workers in non-food retail and healthcare.

On September 1, Governor Hochul Tremaine Wright, a former member of the Brooklyn Congregation, appointed Chairman of the Cannabis Control Board (CCB) and Christopher Alexander appointed Executive Director of the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM).

Under the New York Legalization Act, the independent OCM was formed within the New York State Liquor Authority and will be responsible for regulating the recreational cannabis market as well as the existing medical marijuana and hemp programs. The OCM, in turn, is overseen by the Cannabis Control Board.
