New strain review: Lil Baby’s debut Wham!
He could be the hottest rapper in the world. And he loves to rhyme about reefers. But will Baby’s brand new Wham! strain pass Leafly’s first toke test?
On Friday, August 26th, Atlanta’s golden child, Lil Baby, gave birth to a new line of cannabis. His wham! brand is more than just a quick thank you to fans as he gears up for his next album. phew! is the legacy trader’s first foray into legal cannabis. And it doesn’t look like it will be his last chance at the licensed game.
“I was selling weed when they released White Tee,” Baby rapped on 2018’s “Ready,” nodding to 2004’s ATL classic “White Tee” by The Franchize Boyz. For reference, Baby was born in December 1994. Suddenly his rap name makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?
Such is his influence on the streets of Atlanta that his 4PF rap crew has been blamed for the Obama Runtz onslaught of 2020. But as of April of this year, Baby began launching Wham!, along with The Holding Company behind it.

The details of WHAM! are mostly private for the time being. But Cookies CEO Berner, GUMBO CEO Luka Brazi and Joke’s Up! CEO Yung LB supports the movement in her own unique way.
THC-rich cannabis is far from legal in Baby’s home state of Georgia, but small amounts are decriminalized in the city of Atlanta and other communities. And only low THC oil is approved for medical patients of GA. Luckily for Baby, the worldwide appeal of his music means he doesn’t have to wait for The Peach State to come into play.

So what is Wham! really hit? Leafy contributor Dan Reagan stopped at Joke’s Up! Ice Kream Shop to see if Lil Baby’s Weed is a real hitter to rival his Billboard hits.
A clean, relaxing buzz for the bosses
(Dan Reagan / Leafly)
From the first move, wham! Fast acting, with a relaxing but not drowsy buzz. When you crack the packet, poignant nodules of gas fill the room. But after the initial gas rush, Baby’s Wham! carries more subtle hints of octane mixed with piney outdoor terpenes that can melt the tension on the first sniff.
The flower is cured to perfection. With no messy or sticky breakdown, rolling prep is quick and easy. When you’re paying $72 for an eighth (3.5 grams), you want to make sure every bit of THC goes into your roll-up. phew! doesn’t leave the good stuff stuck in your grinder or at your fingertips.
This is best used as an evening bud that will melt away the stress of the day. It won’t put you to sleep straight away, but it does go straight into the body without an intense head high.
Although this flower lets the user sit back and relax for 30-90 minutes, the high doesn’t last or feel oppressive. Depending on THC tolerance, heavy hitters may curl up sooner rather than later to keep the vibe alive.
phew! final verdict
The baby’s buds are big and shiny. The violet undertones indicate high doses of linalool, the lavender-flavored terpene associated with relaxation. (Dan Reagan / Leafly)
The quick buzz comes in handy when you’re a boss who needs a quick break or a gentle rush. But those who want intense medicinal effects that will get them in one smack in the butt might find Wham! requires a few extra hits to finish the job. The effects are playa, but the price isn’t. If it weren’t for the high ticket, I’d say this is the A-minus strain to keep on average for quiet occasions. But these inflationary times mean Wham! is bent to a B+ overall.
Find Wham! while stocks last at Joke’s Up! Ice Kream Dispensaries (Studio City, Downtown LA), The Ten Co (Perris, CA), Cookies (Melrose, San Francisco, Mission Valley), Backpack Boyz (LA, San Diego), Nug (Sacramento, San Leandro, El Cerrito, Oakland) and The Cure Company (Inglewood, Crenshaw, DTLA) throughout California.
To keep up to date with Baby’s next steps in legal weed, visit his HoldingTHC Instagram or his website. Not to be confused with JAY-Z’s parent company, Baby’s Holding Company is well-positioned to do bags with other MC-run marijuana companies like JAY’s Monogram, Wiz Khalifa’s Khalifa Kush, B-Real’s Dr. Bringing Greenthumb’s and Lil Kim’s aphrodisiac together.
Lil Babies 12 hottest rhymes about weed
Lil Baby and Cookies announced Wham! back in April. (The Holding Company / Instagram)
- “3.5 or better, whenever I smoke I see them doing it, but I do most.” “Moved to Miami” (2021)
Baby claimed last year he was paying $500 an ounce. So if he’s really smoking 3.5 gram blunts every time, at least he’s zipping through by himself every day or two. This is definitely “do the most”.
- “If I don’t smoke Runtz, it’s probably limoncello.” “Forever” (2020)
Runtz co-founder and chief marketer Yung LB helped secure the Leafly 2020 Strain of the Year award by getting the game’s hottest rappers to praise Runtz with the same pride they advertise designer clothes and luxury cars .
- “Come out of the trenches and get paid like a pop star, I sell weed like a rasta” – “24” (2020)
This musical ode to Kobe Bryant had a few strong lines about bud, but this one hits the hardest.
- “The joke’s on! it must be stamped on the box/It’s the Real 1 you know that I’m taxing” – “Real As It Gets” (2021)
This subtle salute to Yung LB’s Joke’s Up! Umbrella and his Atlanta-based brand Real 1 are another example of music’s power to make weed a status symbol.
- “I haven’t been to the scene that often, I get charged somewhere. Don’t talk about weed I smoke (drink) I poured. I’m talking about this money I’ve saved” – “Frozen” (2022)
Do you know how high you gotta be to be loaded with cast rhymes?
- “Ridin’ in the Foreign, Chiefin’ on the Forest” Lil Baby “All In” (2020)
In 2021, Baby spent the night in a French jail cell after the car was stopped and police said they smelled weed. They found almost an ounce and fined Baby before releasing him the next day.
- “Wait a minute, who has backwoods? Gotta Roll Up” “Commercial” (2020)
Baby is a Backwoods fan. When rolling 3.5 gram blunts, woods are some of the only wraps that won’t crack under the pressure.
- “I keep getting cash in / My little Brodie and they got Runtz for cheap” “Ramen & OJ” (2021)
More Runtz love. Maybe that boy from the Obama Runtz viral video wasn’t lying about Baby being a secret part of the Runtz crew.
- “Baby stay honest with his people, baby like a preacher, baby probably still sells reefers” “Baby” (2019)
If your preacher sells reefers, you are blessed and very popular.
- “My husband still sells weed but he’s not me so I can’t tell him to stop/ Then again I’m glad it’s just weed and he’s not selling a block.”
You want your friends to stop selling weed, but you respect their autonomy. Only solution: start a legal cannabis line and give them jobs. phew!

- “Live like a Don, could smoke a blunt in the back of the Maybach” “In a Minute” (2022)
If you can’t identify with flaming blunts in the back of your chauffeur-driven six-figure wagon, you’re smoking Wham! on the back of an Uber could achieve similar effects*.
