New Florida Bill plans to revise the medical cannabis program and add Delta-8 THC. regulate

Florida lawmakers recently tabled bill that would effectively regulate delta-8 THC and make significant changes to the state’s medical cannabis program.

The Florida Act is a measure aimed at setting strict limits for Delta-8-THC and its availability across the state. As for the medical cannabis program, the bill aims to change the existing order of things from top to bottom. It is proposing a new cannabis regulator to oversee the affairs of the industry, and it is also proposing new rules and regulations to prevent pharmacy permits from being sold for a profit.

The bill has been described as a major update to the state’s five-year-old law on medicinal cannabis. Voters approved the existing reforms in 2016, and they have not been changed. Rep Andrew Learned (D) and Rep Spencer Roach (R) are co-sponsors of the bill. No legislator believes that the accepted THC levels of synthetic psychoactive substances such as Delta-8-THC must be strictly limited. They also believe that state medical cannabis legislation needs a complete overhaul.

In a discussion with Florida Politics, lawmakers said they are working to ensure that medical cannabis patients have better access to drugs at lower prices. The changes in the law would lead to a significant reduction in the price of all cannabis-based medical devices. This would make the program itself more user-friendly and also guarantee patient safety.

The bill also stipulates that Go products should only be sold to people aged 21 and over. This includes all Delta-8 products intended for consumption.

In addition, the bill aims to increase the requirements for medical cannabis licenses. It also saves around 60% of the cost of patient participation in the cannabis program by lengthening the time between important doctor appointments. If this law is passed, more patients will have access to doctors for prescriptions.

First of all, the draft law provides for the duration of the course to be tripled from two to six hours.

Regarding advertising bans, the bill proposes to maintain the permanent ban on cannabis-related advertising aimed at children or underage young adults. The change is that doctors and pharmacies advertise on social platforms and websites. However, the content of each ad must be reviewed and approved by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services before it can be uploaded. Another criterion for these ads is that they are neither pop-up ads nor advertising for adult cannabis in any form.

The provisions of the measure would set up a new agency. The agency, the Advisory Council for Medical Marijuana Testing, would commit to industrially testing all products for every single parameter. The Agency will routinely provide input on appropriate and standard guidelines for the cannabis industry.

The council should produce a report each year containing the best recommendations for the advancement of the industry. This annual report will prevent traffic accidents related to cannabis. Proponents of the bill also believe that this agency’s annual report would show efficient ways to implement drug-free workplace policies and testing standards

Finally, the bill would prevent pharmacies and residents with at least 5% or more of the voting rights of a center from hiring a doctor or even from having financial plans for a doctor’s office, cannabis testing lab, and other banned testing labs. It ensures that workers, administrators, executives and other employees with an advantage over others have no direct or indirect interest in the economic or financial situation in a pharmacy.

Since the bill was introduced a few days ago, it has received mixed reactions from business owners and residents across the state. Legal Delta 9 THC is quite difficult to buy, and many have settled for Delta 8 THC only to be suggested by lawmakers to take it too.

Some people understand that Reps Roach and Andrew introduced this new law to get rid of the excesses in the industry while making it as professional as possible. Others don’t.

Michael Jones, a vape shop owner in downtown Fort Myers, said he supported the bill’s contents. It mainly increases the age of customers who can request Delta-8 products (the drug would no longer be sold to anyone under 21 in Florida). As a business owner who sells certain Delta 8 products, it is clear that new guidelines would affect entrepreneurs like Jones financially.

According to Jones, having a reputable and professional industry in the long run is better, and that is the stability that the new bill proposes.

On the flip side, people like Eli Joyce, owner of Sunshine cannabis, say it is better for the government to focus on providing more access to the industry rather than more restrictive regulations. Joyce believes the bill is a covert government attempt to prevent access to the medical marijuana industry.

At least 16 states have banned or restricted the indiscriminate use / purchase of Delta-8 products and other synthetic substances.
