NASA is a narc? – The illegal cultivation of cannabis was so enormous that it was discovered from space
Do you realize how big a cannabis farm has to be to be seen thousands of miles from space?
Very large!
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) international space station and its orbiting satellites routinely receive and transmit a great deal of data about the Earth and other planets. During one of these rounds, NASA’s detailed satellite imagery was able to detect the presence of a huge illegal indoor cannabis farm.
Illegal cannabis operations
Running illegal cannabis farms around the world loses millions of dollars each year. The crops from these unlicensed farms meet the ever-increasing demand for the black market for cannabis.
Every year law enforcement agencies discover and search a dozen or so of these sites and destroy crops. This has not stopped others from doing the same illegal acts. It is more or less as if two or more illegal cannabis operations begin for every illegal farm that is raided.
A few years ago, the largest illegal cannabis operation to date was discovered in the Netherlands. The farm land was 8.8 million square feet and was mainly used for the production of cannabis plants.
The farm reportedly produced around 1,000 tons of grass annually for distribution in and outside of Europe. That amount is so much more than what is produced by a number of legally licensed cannabis farms.
Cannabis in Nevada
Nevada has legalized the use of medicinal and recreational cannabis. The first was approved in the voting in 2000, while the latter was legalized in 2016.
State residents 21 years of age and older are permitted to purchase marijuana for any reason from licensed pharmacies in designated locations across the state. Recreational users, however, are not allowed to buy more than an ounce of weed at a time.
The latest raid
The official report states that the first reports from residents were made in the summer of last year. At this point the remaining embers of the number fire began to get too cold.
The Numbers Fire forest fire destroyed over 18,000 acres of pine trees in the Nut Mountains of Nevada. In July 2020, over a thousand people lost their homes to the forest fire.
NASA discovered an indoor cannabis farm more than 62 kilometers from space. The illegal operation has been described as the largest ever found in Douglas County Nevada.
About the illegal cannabis farm in Douglas County
Douglas County is approximately 20 miles from Carson City, capital of the state of Nevada, and the Lake Tahoe border. Around 80 employees worked on site on the farm.
Until then, no other company was employed in the county and residents knew that locking the farm would mean automatic job loss. Critics suggest that this could be the main reason the presence of the illegal plants went undetected for a while.
The Record courier revealed that the greenhouses were on 20 acres of land. There were around 160 of these structures in total.
The raid
Unbeknownst to many Douglas County residents, complaints about the cannabis farm have been filed with law enforcement agencies for the past few months.
Instead of filing a complaint immediately, Nevada security officials took all due care to gather their facts / evidence. It is said that in order to catch a very large fish, patience is required.
It is also possible that law enforcement officials hoped to expose the people or gangs behind the illegal farm’s operations. This would likely have helped them arrest the Kingpins rather than the henchmen who run the farm.
One of the evidence received includes the satellite image report obtained from NASA’s space unit.
The Nevada authorities were prepared!
Numerous state and national law enforcement agencies were in attendance on the day of the raid, including officers from the Douglas County Sheriff Office, the DEA, the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, the Washoe Tribal Police Department, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and other local officials walked in Douglas County and ceased illegal cultivation.
Over 70 people were picked up on site and detained for questioning. It was found that these workers worked in very poor conditions that were not seen on legal cannabis farms.
After everything was settled, the sheriff’s website reported that only two people were arrested for offenses unrelated to marijuana allegations.
Buried Weed, Zero Cannabis Kingpins
It all seems to have been in vain. After the raid, authorities are no closer to tracking down a cannabis king pin than they were a few months ago. The events of that day are still botched and no one could immediately tell what the authorities did with the high weed pile from the farm.
Research on the subject found that around 62 tons, or 123,900 pounds of grass, was buried deep and never seen again. The total number of plants on the farm has not been disclosed, but at that weight it could easily be thousands. That means millions of dollars worth of weeds have been buried. A newspaper suggested that authorities were trying to prevent people from finding the location of the grave and digging up the buried plants.
People who worked on site reported that the plants were not so small that a very deep grave would have been dug to contain the pile.
Reports from local residents indicate that there are several Chinese nationals behind this cannabis cultivation who may be part of an organized crime syndicate.
Bottom line
Authorities say the Cedar Flat cultivation is the largest unlicensed marijuana farm ever discovered in Nevada.
Nobody has come forward to claim ownership of the attached farm and it is unlikely that anyone will show up for it any time soon.
It’s a shame the federal and state authorities haven’t figured out the kingpins behind the farm.
Hopefully an example will soon be set by someone preventing illegal cannabis cultivation like this from being established. If the raids worked on their own, there wouldn’t be as much illegal cannabis as there is now.
