Marijuana lounges could soon open in this state

Marijuana lounges could open in Nevada later this year. These locations would allow adults over the age of 21 to openly use marijuana products in a social setting.

This news was shared by the state’s Cannabis Compliance Board on Tuesday:

“Today, the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) voted unanimously to approve regulations governing the licensing and operation of cannabis consumption lounges,” read the opening statement.

The statement then explains that the approval of these regulations followed a months-long process in which details were discussed in over 15 public meetings and workshops. According to the CCB, the first licenses will be issued in the fall, allowing the lounges to open towards the end of the year.

Marijuana lounges were legalized last year when lawmakers approved a bill, creating two potential licenses. There is one for “retail cannabis consumption lounges” where products can be purchased and consumed, and another for “independent cannabis consumption lounges” that sell single-serve and ready-to-use products.

Nevada appears to be the state that leads the way when it comes to cannabis lounges, creating an environment similar to that of a bar. Instead of letting people take their cannabis to a place where it can be consumed, these lounges serve as a place to buy and consume.

The law would allow the idea of cannabis lounges to expand and allow a variety of businesses to sell weed. In Nevada, marijuana could soon be sold in restaurants, gyms, and massage parlors.

Alaska and Colorado already have regulations on cannabis lounges, although they’re not as free as those in Nevada. New York’s legalization laws also mention places where cannabis can be consumed in public.
