Many people train high during the pandemic
COVID-19 has affected a large part of our lives. Although 2021 was a return to normal in many ways, the pandemic is still ongoing and we’ve learned some habits that we will incorporate into our new normal, including how we use our cannabis. While the pandemic clearly allowed for more weed smoking, a new study found that it also became more common to exercise while high.
The study, conducted by the fitness review website FitRated, interviewed over 1,000 people who incorporate cannabis into their workouts. And depending on whether it was THC or CBD, the respondents used the plant in different ways.

The results show that THC users consume cannabis before or during their exercise and use it as a stimulant or means of concentration. CBD users consume cannabis after exercise and take advantage of the compound’s fortifying properties.

When asked about cannabis use before exercise, the majority of people said they discovered a method that is best for their exercise routine. When asked if cannabis made them too lethargic to exercise, 46% of participants said they didn’t. Forty-one percent of THC users said that cannabis helped them be motivated enough to exercise.

When they talked about breaking personal records, 62% of THC users said they had broken personal records after consuming cannabis. Half (50%) of CBD users said the same thing. With a small margin, CBD users were able to train for longer periods of time (48 minutes versus 45 minutes for THC users). In terms of exercise intensity, 62% of cannabis users of all types stated that their training was more intense with cannabis than when they were exercising with it.
While it is enlightening read, the study crystallizes some of the key differences between training with CBD and training with THC. Both are motivators, but THC seems to make training more intense and focused, while CBD helps with recovery.
Cannabis could be just the thing to motivate you to get moving again.
