Man or woman? Who Benefits More from Using Weed Before Sex?

A new study adds more evidence of marijuana’s positive effects on sex. The results show that cannabis increases the likelihood of orgasm and makes people more likely to experience pleasure. Most importantly, the study claims that the plant could have an effect for women by helping to treat sexual dysfunction and narrowing the orgasm inequality gap.

The study, published in the Journal of Cannabis Research and conducted by researchers from East Carolina University, focused on survey responses from 811 adults between the ages of 18 and 85. The majority of them identified as female and all had prior cannabis experience.

“The purpose of this study was to examine the perceived impact of cannabis on sexual function and satisfaction,” the researchers wrote.

Responses show that most participants, regardless of age and gender, reported that they felt more pleasure and satisfaction during sex after using cannabis.

A closer look at the results reveals that 70% of respondents said using cannabis before sex made them more likely to experience orgasm while also increasing their desire. 62% said the drug increased the pleasure of masturbating.

One of the strengths of the study is the fact that it used subjects from diverse backgrounds. For example, the researchers made sure their subjects were in multiple work sectors, had different cannabis preferences, age groups, and sexual orientations (nearly 25% of the participants were identified as LGBTQIA+). After considering factors that may have altered their findings, they concluded that the sex lives of both men and women benefited from the addition of marijuana.

“This study updates the current literature on cannabis and sexuality and provides implications for improving sexual quality,” the researchers wrote. “Among the medical implications of this study is the potential use of cannabis to treat sexual dysfunction, particularly in women.”

In the case of women, the study suggests that marijuana could help them treat various medical disorders while bridging the orgasm inequality gap, a phenomenon that refers to the inequality between heterosexual men and women when it comes to orgasms .

“Women may be more likely to orgasm when using cannabis prior to sexual encounters, which could help both women and men equalize levels of sexual pleasure and satisfaction. Sex therapists could include the use of cannabis in states where it is currently legal,” the researchers argued.
