The weed trends we saw this year

This was a year in which we defined individual consumption styles and found out which weed products helped us relax and optimize our experience to the fullest.

From our account managers, software engineers, customer success managers, product designers, and others, here are some cannabis trends that we have noticed in our own circles that have had an impact on our year.

Trend 1: We have said goodbye to our old habits

2021 was a great year of flower discovery for me. I traditionally stuck to vapes and edibles because they were simple, discreet, and predictable.

Flower has opened up so many new possibilities for me and there are countless ways to consume it – not just in a bong.

I’ve started looking at edibles again and I have to say they have come a long way in the past few years. The dosage seems to be more accurate and the “weed flavor” was absent from the few brands I tried.

I’ve noticed that my friends really get into flowers and edibles, especially as a way to relax after the work day.

I’ve switched my primary consumption of cartridge vapes to dry herb as flower prices have started to drop in my state, the strains available for flowering are much wider, and the taste is so much better.

Trend 2: Weed Bevs won us over

I have noticed that, for reasons of tolerance as well as to protect the lungs a little more, in these “unprecedented times”, many people tend more towards food and drink.

We’ve all been enjoying drinking our cannabis like cocktails with brands like CANN and Purejuana lately.

In Vegas I was given a 100 mg elixir in a bottle the size of a small energy drink. I shared it with two friends and it took our high to a whole new level.

Trend 3: Rolling joints was a popular activity

For me, 2021 was the year I pack cones for consumption – I got addicted to these pink cones, which are adorable and make me feel like a Hollywood actress from the 20s.

Over the past year, and especially during the pandemic period in general, I’ve moved away from glass as my preferred method of consumption and spent more time rolling joints by hand.

I’ve found that it adds a nice ritual and time to the prep and smoking process that I enjoy, and goes well with an overall slowdown in the pace of life.

I fell in love again buying sugar wax and rolling it with my jays that I smoke. Not a big trend, more like ‘I’ve been at home for 2 years because of Covid, how can I save money on infused joints?

Trend 4: Variety selection and research into terps dominated

I started buying my own weed this year. Working at Leafly convinced me that anyone can have at least one strain that works for them, so I tried different terpenes.

So far, pinene has the best effect for me.

I’ve definitely started rotating more strains this year and playing matchmakers between activities and strains that go well together.

I’ve also looked at other consumption methods to understand what works best for me medically and in my free time

I’ve noticed that my friends and I care more about the strains we consume and are actively buying different strains / brands to try new products.

I really started to identify which strains I like the most and found that they all have the same dominant terpene – myrcene!

Happy New Year from Leafly.
