Leafly Buzz: The world’s best hash for Oil Day 2023

The most heady of all holidays is upon us as the hash world gears up to celebrate the 10th of July.

If you hold your laptop upside down, you’ll quickly notice that 710 upside down means “oil”. When Task Rok and the other hash ancestors found out, they decided to make it a holiday more than a decade ago.

Although we don’t smoke much oil anymore, we still love hash! To this day the 10.07. the biggest hash festival in North America, and the Euros took this day much easier than 4/20; so they are there too.

Here are some of our favorite hash businesses from around the world in honor of the holiday.

If you’re a few hundred kilometers off the coast of Africa and smoking the best hash of your life, there’s a good chance you’ll land Hanami Gardens. Hanami is the pride of the Canary Islands when it comes to hash and it’s easy to argue that he’s among the top five European hash players. Their one-stop material is some of the most beautiful flowers we’ve seen outside of the US, let alone the hash they make from it.

hash and flowers

California’s Hash and Flowers has had an incredible few years. And sure, Honey Banana here, Honey Banana there, I see. But it should be noted that there have been many other wacky flavors over the years, created from a variety of different terpene profiles. These include some of my favorite runs from Wilson F3 and the elusive Watermelon Zkittelz. Hash and Flowers’ disposable vape pens are also among the biggest hits.

The HolyWater team has always been there – they’ve been through hash history and evolved over time. The Oakland-based company released some of the first wet terps in the shatter age, before we really started seeing BHO badders on a large scale. It was a revolution. They’ve kept up with the times and won a lot of awards along the way. Their recent collaboration with Deep East Oakland Farms is just further proof that despite their longevity and variety of formats over the years, they still rank high.

Dochazed

Spannabis week is by far the largest on the hash calendar outside of North America. In addition to the accolades that Spannabis throws out for elite hash, events like The Ego Clash Barcelona, Masters of Rosin, and Dab-A-Doo are all notable awards in their own right. Dochazed was on every podium this weekend, with much of the material coming from last year’s Ego Clash Barcelona Flower Champion Unobtainium Artisan Floristry. They were all awesome, he even let me pick his ego clash entry from the two finalists he had left before the competition. It was super flattering!

Simpleeadam

The Banana God that Simpleeadam brought to Northern California’s Ego Clash this year was among the most appreciated hash in a long time. In a room full of some of the largest hash heads in the world, everyone was “just” blown away by the terps he was able to preserve while hauling. This is also another bullseye for Compton, CA and the team at Masonic Seed Co. Expect many people to try to emulate Simpleeadam’s success with this strain, but in this case, all you have to do is see.

Husband and wife team Wooksauce Winery has firmly established its claim to real estate in the upper echelons of the hash market. Victory at the Emerald Cup in 2022 was more of a confirmation of the work done than a big surprise. Even in a world ready to rosinize everything, Wooksauce brings out some of the best melts in the game and actually gives people a chance to get access to some real six-star hash.

community

If you’re looking for some spectacular, affordable terpenes this holiday season, this is definitely the brand on this list that will win the battle.

Sister company of multiple Emerald Cup winner in Kalya. While the quality is on par with everyone on the list, the price is more in keeping with the name. The community makes great concentrates available to consumers at very fair prices. The rise of the community also mirrored that of Kalya in recent years. The company is now represented from the Emerald Triangle to San Diego. If you’re looking for some spectacular, affordable terpenes this holiday season, this is definitely the brand on this list that will win the battle.

uncle’s farm

Piattella is finally on the map in North America. I wrote about it last year but didn’t know it was called that. Luckily Roger from Puffco was here to save you from my ignorance and to use the digital dab movement to secure Piattella’s place in cannabis hype history. In European hash circles, it’s fundamentally illegal to use the P-word without paying some sort of homage to the Piattella godfathers of Uncle’s Farm, who helped fuel the rise of the Spanish hash scene a few years ago . The pandemic was one of the main reasons you didn’t hear about the process sooner. Numerous American hash extractors are currently experimenting, hoping to create something remotely resembling Uncle’s Farm.

nature lab

Another company that has smoothly transitioned into the solvent-free era is Nature’s Lab. Don’t get us wrong, the C4 they brought to the Desert Smoke-off in 2019 was one hell of a heat, but times have changed a lot in the past few years when it comes to the availability of great solvent-free products, and the People don’t appreciate that – BHO done as it should. But given the original “nature” of the company, they have access to spectacular material from great farmers. Kaya Farms’ Sour Donkey pictured here is a great example.

miner melts

Mountain Man Melts (Jimi Devine)Mountain Man Melts (Jimi Devine)

One of the fastest growing rec brands in the Emerald Triangle, Mountain Main Melts is one of the shining jewels of quality available to consumers. In a world where people rely on Zkittelz and candy terps because so many strains aren’t commercially viable, Mountain Man has a line of freaky terps that will blow your mind. The loudest are the new Fatso barrels coming out. They used AI to design the label!

punch extracts

When it came to helping consumers unfamiliar with terpenes, few things have proven as useful as Punch Extracts’ tiered system. It made it much easier for people to understand how the manufacturer dictated the quality of the produce rather than just looking at the prices on the menu. And the Tier Ones are really something special. The Punch team threw me a glass of Ramblatan at the Emerald Cup awards ceremony and if they had entered the competition they would have made the top ten for sure. Absolutely wild and special mounds.

West Coast Alchemy

Few names excite California Hash Heads quite like West Coast Alchemy. Long known for their superb flavors and collaborations with big names like Symbiotic Genetics, West Coast Alchemy’s terps have always made a name for themselves. Sometimes the hype is a little bigger than usual – as was the case recently with their Zushi rosin drop in collaboration with The Ten Co. The limited run of 76 two-gram jars fetched $1,000 each. Nothing else has ever even come close to reaching those numbers.

Cultivated in the highlands

Highland Grown, the pride of Scottish cannabis, not only produces the best hash we’ve seen from the Scottish Highlands, but also the best buds. It was absolutely spotless and it was easy to see why the hash came out so well. The star of the show is their resin wraps, imagine a pre-roll where the paper has been swapped for hash. They are a real head turner and have done well in European competitions. There’s a solid argument that Highland Grown produces the best hash and bud in the UK.

And that’s a big dollop of premium hash from around the world. Have a great 7/10 oil day, even if every day is a good day for extracts.
