Leafly Buzz: 13 illuminated weed varieties for August and September 2021

Pot girl summer. Hot Vax summer. Whatever it is, it’s hot and grass keeps us cool.

But which strain of weed do you choose from thousands to choose from? Quite simply – the best. This month:

  • One purple variety sizzled while another purple fizzled out
  • Do-Si-Dos flirts with the top 10 in the west
  • Pot that smelled of garlic, sour candy, peach, and peanut butter came out in Colorado, California and beyond

Only Leafly synthesizes the stem, store, brand, and menu data to paint a large, multi-billion dollar picture, and that picture is wild.

Our ad-free Leafly Buzz series highlights the charting strains and hot-hot new brand flowers from the largest and most influential market, the western United States.

Turn off the disgusting bong water and add a few ice cubes – there you go.

Leafly Buzz data grinder

Cannabis strains are becoming increasingly popular as Korean pop stars. Every month is different. Data Grinder breaks up the numbers.

  • Purple Urkle ⏫ + 233%
  • Do-Si-Dos ⬆️ + 0.4%
  • XJ-13 ⬇️ -21%
  • Purple punch ⬇️ -10%

Purple Urkle

Interest in Purple Urkle is up + 233% month on month this summer thanks to actor Jaleel White and 710 Labs. The star of Family Matters and California’s elite flower / hash brand rekindled interest in this classic cut of Mendocino Purps from unknown breeders (hippies, most likely). It smells like grape soda and is great for chilling, maxin ‘, relaxin’, all cool …

Do-Si-Dos

Do-si-dos (David Downs / Leafly)Do-Si-Dos (David Downs / Leafly)

Do-Si-Dos has only a small interest (+ 0.4%) and will crack the top 10 most popular flowers west of the Rocky Mountains. Do-Si-Dos will rock OG Kush lovers with its cross of Face-Off OG and OGKB, and its biting fuel meets a cute, purple-hued cookie-flavored attack that pairs well with trippy, adult cartoons and a bowl of rockier Road connects. Bred by Archive Seeds of Oregon.

XJ-13

XJ-13 (David Downs / Leafly)XJ-13 (David Downs / Leafly)

Down 21% this month, the aging XJ-13 has dipped its afterburners and gone into travel mode. Jack Herer and G-13 Haze have been delivering sugar-sweet light and light flavors and daily effects for years. XJ is still great for flipping spreadsheets with no notifications, but it has hit the jetwash of newer, tastier sativa hybrids like Strawberry Banana and Papaya.

Purple punch

Purple Punch’s popularity declined 10% as Purp fans hunted for newer grape flavors. Bred by Supernova Gardens from Larry OG and GDP, Purple Punch still has pocket appeal and a delicious, powdery, sweet grape and fuel smell. Its indica hybrid effects are manageable enough to blend in with a few brews – just people watch. The Punch is one of the top 10 most popular strains in the west and still has plenty to do.

Leafly Buzz new strains

New in the Leafly variety database

This August, Leafly’s master database will be expanded to include these four new crossings. All vibrate with trendy, terpy energy.

Zoap

Zoap from Deo Farms (David Downs / Leafly)Zoap from Deo Farms (David Downs / Leafly)

Deo Farms’ Zoap shows off the unmatched Zkittlez and GSC culture of Oakland, California – the 21st selection of a breeding project that crossed Rainbow Sherbert V2 and Pink Guava # 16 F2 with Zoap.

Zoap has a tropical floral scent with a chemical bite that suggests lye or soap. Great for blowing up the PlayStation 5, Zoap explodes in California.

Slow track

Connected Slow Lane (David Downs / Leafly)Connected Slow Lane (David Downs / Leafly)

If you see us sneaking in the slow lane, walk around – we have Connected in the car. Connected Cannabis Co. has a potent indica hybrid for GSC lovers of 2021. Slow Lane combines Biscotti x Sugar Cone for hearty-sweet churro funk, perfect for a sunset cruise on a beach cruiser.

to the edge

Alien Labs Biskante (David Downs / Leafly)Alien Labs Biskante (David Downs / Leafly)

Zkittlez plus Lemon Tree, Gelato, and GSC can’t be beat; especially when Alien Labs took over the hybridization and selection. Biskante isn’t cheap in California pharmacies, but this elite blend of Melonade x Biscotti smells like tropical, candied gasoline. It’s a prime reserve flower to secretly meet up with another lover and then dust off a whole bag of goldfish crackers.

Bomb cyclone

Seth Rogen’s Houseplant brand is introducing its first hybrid, Bomb Cyclone, this summer through a legal California delivery service. But everyone can achieve this aroma and effect with the parent varieties Wedding Cake and Gelato # 33.

Bred by Seed Junky Genetics, Bomb Cyclone smells moist, lemony, and floral, with a creamy vanilla finish; ideal for stays with documentation about extreme weather.

Product highlights in August

New on pharmacy shelves – Garlic Breath by Hava Gardens, CO

Hava Gardens Garlic Breath (Courtesy Hava Gardens)Garlic Breath from Hava Gardens (Courtesy Hava Gardens)

Hearty, garlic-like, horny and funky – the garlic breath throwers from Hava Gardens don’t lie. The women owned and operated greenhouse growers in Colorado use high quality “living earth” beds as opposed to bottled nutrients and a dead medium like rockwool. Garlic breath comes from breeder ThugPug who combined GMO and Mendo Breath for maximum stink. Expect ultra-potent late-night baking and nibbling.

The flower from Hava Gardens, spotted in Colorado stores like Blue Heron and Unity Rd., Also supplies Akta extracts like this living rosin cart from Garlic Crasher.

Taking the Charts Up – Rainbow Belts from LA Family Farms, CA

LA Family Farms Rainbow Belts (David Downs: Leafly)LA Family Farms Rainbow Belts (David Downs: Leafly)

Travel to the top of the rainbow with friends on the lakeshore and experience terps that beat nationwide.

A beautiful look that smells of wild berry candy, tropical pineapple, perfume and gasoline is making bags full of rainbow belts roam the US this summer. If you love Zkittlez, you’ll love this prettier, tastier upgrade from Archive Seeds that crossed excellent Z selection back to the Moonbow (Do-Si-Dos x Zkittlez) strain. The Californian brand LA Family Farms included an exemplary cut from RB in Greenwolf’s Zalympix in July. A Rainbow Belts also took 5th place in solvent-free live rosin at the Emerald Cup 2021.

Belts shine all over the west, from Talking Trees in California to Fweedon Cannabis in Seattle and Island Herb and PRC-Conway in Washington to Maryland’s Zen Leaf.

Ballin out – Peach OZ from Wonderbrett, CA

Uniquely peach-colored, tropical sweet horniness awaits the Biebs in glasses with Peach OZ at Wonderbrett. (Courtesy Wonderbrett)

Bunch like Justin Bieber with Peach OZ from Wonderbrett. The $ 285 million singer lost over $ 1,000 in flowers and edibles, including a new, awesome variety of fruit, Peach OZ, at Wonderbrett’s new Los Angeles store in July.

The smell of sweet berry kush gives way to the smoke with hints of Zkittlez’s syrup and peach. Dying Breed Seeds of Mendocino, CA crossed OZ Kush and Peach Rings, and Wonderbrett bred and selected a peach-colored version of them. Ideally after a fine meal: use a clean glass bubbler – or roll a fat J.

Ballin ‘on a Shoestring – Peanut Butter Breath, by The Plug, CA

The Plug Sundae Driver Smalls (Courtesy March and Ash)The Plug Sundae Driver Smalls (Courtesy March and Ash)

Legal, tested eighth-ounces cost an average of $ 48 pre-tax in California, Leafly data shows. It’s still too high. Indoor brand The Plug keeps Southern California budget shoppers busy in town with a gang of terpy half-ounces for the price of about a Benjamin.

We enjoyed the PB Breath, but keep an eye out for other trending types: ice cream cakes, gushers, etc. ThugPugs PB Breath leads a hearty, horny spike in legal cannabis flavors. Goes well with paid free time to laze around – like dolphin watching from a hammock.

JAY-Z’s monogram No. 1 hand roll

Monogram hand roll No. 1 heavy (David Downs: Leafly)Monogram hand roll No. 1 heavy (David Downs / Leafly)

Beyonce has announced a line of CBD for your days while husband JAY-Z hurls fat joints for the night. The handrolls of the Monogram brand No. 1 by JAY-Z are characterized by their size, their individual handroll look and their loud OG and Kush smell. For a year out, the supplies have been replenished. Ours burned evenly and hit lightly but still thick – great for blowing Kush smoke rings.

Monogram and California partner grower Caliva do not disclose the No. 1 strain name, but the puffy, needle-like lemon Kush points to an obvious suspect: OG Kush. Relaxing, euphoric – the handroll is great for a round of dominoes with the Bros. Dominoes!
