Leafly Buzz: 12 Hot Weed Strains in August 2024

West Coast weed lovers are in for a fall treat with some award-winning strains, both old and new.

Expect fresh pieces from Panama Red and Headband in stores and fields this August, as well as the effective new Tractor Fuel and an intriguing Dank Strainger.

These strains all have maximum THC levels and run the spectrum from pure sativa to indica. They're ready for tough summer work days, taking a session to the next level, or are the masters of wake-and-bake and grilling.

We found hyper-organic options, solar-powered bargains, and competition-ready Zaza.

From where? We're on the road again, with shops, festivals, and farms in our sights. We packed bowls, reviewed notes, added a bit of Leafly data, and boom! Here's Leafly Buzz.

Rank: 308th place

Wow, this elemental old-school sativa climbs to #308 on Leafly this month despite being over 50 years old. Panama Red smells like your parents' barbecues in 1978 with notes of tea, earthiness, and tropical overtones.

Enjoy OG Kush in a different way with Dank Strainger – a cross between OG Kush x Grape Gas. It tastes like grapes, like gas, loud, dark and breathtaking. A strong Indica.

Nimbus Snacks

Durban Mints x GSC make up the dessert strain Nimbus Snacks. Nimbus Snacks took second place at the California State Fair Cannabis Awards in July for the highest ocimene content in a sun-grown flower. Propagated by Conception Nurseries.

The RS-11 madness continues with Windu, a cross between Skywalker OG and RS-11. It's like a darker, denser, wetter, more fuel-y version of RS-11 candy gas, with a purple hue like Mace Windu's lightsaber. Grown by the truckload in Ember Valley, California.

Puffco New Peak

Every day, more and more people are entering the world of cannabis extracts, also known as hash, dabs, rosin, live resin, etc. This August, there's no better way to get started at a better price than Puffco's New Peak at just over $200. It's a high-quality, portable, electronic hash bubbler.

The New Peak lets you sip the coolest, most flavorful, most potent hash rips in the galaxy. Add a dab to the chamber, double click, and sip when the device vibrates. It's that simple and elegant.

For the headie boys, there's a lot to explore under the hood. (A 3D chamber. Joystick cap. Smaller size. Faster loading. And Puffco is fueling a subculture with its own Puffcon on September 28 in LA.)

But when newbies ask, “What is hashish? How do I use it?” I just let them reach the new high.

So here are a dozen flowers for your session. Enjoy the end of summer. See you in person at Connected Cannabis Co.'s Trop Z Drop Party – Thursday, August 29th in West Hollywood from 5:30-8:00 p.m.
