By Nicolas Jose Rodriguez
Kansas Democratic leaders announced Thursday that they would come forward with proposals to allow voters to decide whether to legalize medical and adult marijuana in the state, Marijuana Moment reported. House Minority Leader Tom Sawyer (D) and Deputy Minority Leader Jason Probst (D) briefed the plans.
“It is time to give voters a chance to speak their minds and let lawmakers know how they are feeling,” Sawyer said, noting that Republicans “had very little interest in stopping any type of marijuana- To adopt reform ”.

Probst added that he was careful to ensure that people in Kansas enjoy the same benefits as residents in other states.
“We are an island. We are surrounded by states that offer their residents what they want, ”said Probst. “And Kansas, the leadership in this building, decided they knew better than Kansas what they should have.”

If passed by the legislature and then by the electorate in November, the laws would come into effect in July 2023.
In May 2021, after many meetings to review a variety of amendments to a medical cannabis legalization law, a Kansas House committee passed an overall move by 13 votes to 8 in May 2021. Sawyer said he was “hopeful” that the 2022 bill will be picked up and presented to the Senate.
