July 10th is ‘Dab Day’ – that means that

July 10th or Dab Day keeps the summer festival going in the pharmacies. The holiday celebrates the idea that 710 is upside down like “OIL”. (Granted, it’s a chore, but hey cannabis users have the right to party whenever they want.)

Dab Day, also known as Oil Day, celebrates cannabis-derived products, including extracts and oils. Even with the pandemic last year, sales for these products still increased.

Cannabis data and analytics company Headset reported that on Dab Day 2020 (10/7/20), total US cannabis sales increased 5.0% from the average for the last four Fridays. Canadian cannabis markets saw a larger increase in sales over the same period, growing 10.3%. Both US and Canadian cannabis customers ensured that “Dab Day” lived up to its name in 2020. In both countries, concentrates recorded by far the strongest one-day sales growth of all product categories.

Compared to the last four Fridays, Canadian concentrate sales increased by 40.6%, with Pre-Rolls (+ 11.5%), Edibles (10.9%), Vapor Pens (+ 10.1%) also showing positive growth recorded. Sales of concentrates in the US increased 48.6%, with Vapor Pens (+ 8.0%) being the only other category to see positive growth. Headset said all data for the US is from CA, CO, MA, MI, NV, OR, PA, and WA unless otherwise noted. All data for Canada comes from AB, BC, ON (private only) and SK.

Rosin products saw the strongest growth in the United States, up 115% compared to the last four Fridays. Badder / Budder (+ 70%) and Live Resin (+ 60%) were the second most successful segments. In Canada, the three top performing concentrate segments were: Hash (+ 86%), Shatter (+ 49%), and Live Resin (+ 38%).

Leaflink also tracked 2020 sales for Dab Day. Sales on LeafLink increased 5% for the month to the 7th of October. While oil is the celebrated product, flowers were the most popular product category through 7:10 a.m. during the month – during that time, flower products accounted for 33% of LeafLink’s market share. However, pre-rolls saw the largest increase – during the month before 7.10, this product category saw orders on LeafLink jump 12%. Interestingly, it looked like many had decided to celebrate Day Day by buying pre-rolls with a little dab flavor.

Retailers never miss a holiday and are offering a bargain to draw shoppers into their doors. Headset reported that Dab Day was a fantastic day for American concentrate fans to stock up on products. In the US (CA, CO, NV, OR, PA, WA) the average discount on concentrates rose by a whopping 60%, from 12.0% in the last four weeks to 19.2% on 7/10/2020.
