Item #9, P90 and other strains used to create Blueprint cannabis
Blueprint came across Blueprint at Zalympix’s first winter competition, when the brand’s Triple Lindy won Best Overall. I then sampled item #9 and P90 from Blueprint at the Hall of Flowers: Palm Springs in May and was once again blown away by its quality and consistency.
Unfamiliar with Blueprint’s history, I reached out to Jordan Aguilar, the brand’s co-founder and Cultivation King, to talk about its history and the weed it’s known for.

The short history of the origin of Blueprint
Blueprint was co-founded by Jordan Aguilar, Joe Stanger and Tom Sheridan. Although the brand itself has only been on the market since September 2021, the owners together have decades of cannabis experience. “I originally started with Collective Efforts,” Aguilar said, “which then became Connected Cannabis Co. Connected acquired Alien Labs, so it was me [Director of Indoor Cultivation] for Connected and Alien Labs. I started on the ground floor sweeping and cleaning and worked my way up to manager over 10 years. I’ve been on the commercial side for over 10 years now.”
Speaking of the Blueprint name, Aguilar shared, “I feel like we have the blueprint for the industry. It’s simple: let’s grow good weed, understand what strains we have, why, who we are targeting, how it should be smoked, and all these factors that people should look for when buying weed. The basis is cultivation. Growers are so into the plant that they have cool ideas, good marketing, and a good understanding of everything. We must emphasize the cultivators. The blueprint is simply to grow good weed, show what we do, show the world our art, and be consistent. Let’s roll with that name.”
These are the strains that Blueprint was made from.
The strains from which Blueprint was made
2014 – 2019: Ice Cream
When growing weed for Connected, Aguilar grew lots of Animal Cookies, Sunset Sherbert, and most importantly, all Gelatos – #25, #33, #41, and #45.
“Gelato #41 came about as a godfather to this whole era. It is the backbone of many breeding programs. Gelato #41 taught me a lot about growing. You really have to pay attention to the plant. It was that plant that had to be nailed down, so she taught me a lot about how to curate a plant from A to Z.”
Gelato comes from Sunset Sherbert and Thin Mint GSC. It is known for its dessert-like flavor profile. There are a variety of Gelato phenotypes, each with their own unique characteristics. These include Gelato #25, Gelato #33, Gelato #41, and Gelato #45.
2019: Alien Labs tribes
Between 2018 and 2019, Aguilar told me he helped grow a number of strains for California cannabis legend Alien Labs. These strains include many of Alien Labs classics like Do-Si-Dos, Melonade, Area #41, and Gelonade—to name a few.
2020–present: Triple Lindy, P90, Jesus Shuttlesworth
Blueprint’s first genetic series included Triple Lindy, P90 and Jesus Shuttlesworth. It worked on these strains for a year before launching them in fall 2021. “With our menu we are really aware of the flavor profile and the effect. We want to offer a wide range. Triple Lindy is super euphoric candy gas, P90 is super heavy gas OG and Jesus was umami bubblegum flavor.”
As for the effects, Aguilar said, “Triple is daytime euphoric, P90 puts you to sleep, and Jesus Shuttlesworth is super chilled.”
Triple Lindy won the first Zalympix winter competition at the top of 2022. It shows how well Blueprint is growing weed when its first product launch is already winning awards among some of the biggest and best brands in California. Aguilar recalled how it felt to win Zalympix straight away: “Zalympix was particularly cool as a tournament overall, the people’s choice. It was just a few consumers who bought it and smoked it, and that’s what they thought. For consumers to go out and say, “Wow, I’ve never heard of these guys, but that’s awesome,” that’s super cool. We are super blessed and super lucky to be in the position we are in.”

2022: Item #9, Backyard Boogie and Dr. freeze
Blueprint’s latest creations include Item #9, Backyard Boogie, and Dr. freeze When naming these strains, Aguilar said, “Dr. Freeze was super icy on the plant like it was frozen. At point 9 we were like, ‘This strain is bomb ass shit.’ Point 9 was from Pineapple Express, so that was the inspiration we got from there. Backyard Boogie was a bag seed. I was in my backyard curling up and a seed popped up. I tossed it into a small succulent plant and scooped water from my dog’s water bowl. Somehow a cut showed up at the facility, we tested it and were like, ‘Dude, that’s bomb ass shit, that’s backyard boogie.'”
Keep an eye out for anything coming from Blueprint. If history serves as an indication of the future, they will give us plenty of fireweed for a long, long time.
