Join Pro Cannabis Media’s Jimmy Young as he delves into Curt Dalton of Cannabis.net’s viral article series entitled The Marijuana Industry Is Dead. While a comparison to Prince’s 2006 statement “the internet is dead,” the foreboding warning is now true for many in the cannabis industry. Former Weed Talk News co-host Curt Dalton returns and joins Jimmy and a host of cannabis industry professionals to discuss the current turmoil in the marijuana industry.

Current financial issues are well known in the cannabis industry, from higher inflation and costs to supply saturation to labor issues and lack of financing and credit facilities, but what about the advent of delta-8 and delta-9 THC derivatives ? from hemp? Due to a loophole in the Farm Act of 2018, hemp-derived delta-8 and delta-9 THC are federally legal, and the wording “0.03% THC by weight” was the floodgates for “hemp that really gets you.” “open high” due to liquid forms of Delta-8 and 9. Because liquids are so much denser than dried flower and weigh so much more per square inch, a large amount of hemp-derived THC could be packed into seltzer and soda pop, and still far below the federal legal limits set out in the Agriculture Act of 2018.

While some major cannabis states like California and Colorado have banned Delta-8 in a war known in the industry as “D8 vs. D9,” many feel the health concerns surrounding hemp-derived Delta-8 have been exaggerated so states can protect their heavily taxed marijuana industries. The question remains, how much is hemp-derived delta-8 and 9 contributing to the margin compression and sales slowdown in the cannabis industry?
