Is NFL player Julio Jones one of California’s biggest black market weed dealers?
People get sued all the time, but it was a rude shock when NFL fan-favorite Julio Jones along with three others was sued on extremely unusual allegations.
LarryBrownSports.com was the first news channel to break the news of this lawsuit.
NFL stars Julio Jones and Roddy White are one of the defendants being sued by California-based cannabis company Genetixs.
The stars are being prosecuted for alleged allegations of illegally harvesting and selling millions of dollars in marijuana in California.
According to the court records, the complaint – Genetixs – states that the NFL stars have not reported any sales from the cannabis farm since March. The lawsuits assume that the defendants have illegally acquired at least $ 3 million worth of cannabis every month since then. That means the NFL stars have harvested and sold over $ 15 million worth of cannabis in the past five months
Roddy White is a former player with the Atlanta Falcons, which owns SLW Holdings, one of the five companies that make up Genetix. Julio Jones is the all-time leader in catches and receiving yards for the Falcons. A few weeks ago in June it was traded to Tennessee. He is now the wide receiver of the Tennessee Titans.
The 26-page lawsuit was filed in early July and describes the scope of the defendant’s charges. Including theft, black market sales, money laundering, improper documentation of assets and expenses, and diversion of those assets. The defendant’s actions allegedly caused irreparable damage to parent company Genetixs. The value of the cannabis sold is quite high.
The lawsuit also states that Julio Jones and Roddy White are partnered with two other defendants. It alleges that the group carried out a black market sale of harvested marijuana plants from the applicants’ company, Genetixs LLC, based in Desert Hot Springs, California.
Allegations or conspiracy theories ???
The defendants’ attorney, Rafe Emmanuel, reportedly stated that the content of the lawsuit was “conspiracy theories” that cannot be proven.
He said the charges brought against the NFL stars and their company, SLW Holdings LLC, were unfounded and unfounded.
According to reports from Rfe’s interview with The Tennessean, SLW Holdings has received a preliminary restoration warrant against Genetixs LLC. This was obtained in a related civil proceeding to deter any form of unlawful conduct from the complaint. The lawyers also argue that the “conspiracy theories” cannot be proven by evidence in a trial, nor can they be confirmed by any agency.
This type of comment from a defendant’s attorney is expected. It is normal for a defendant to bluff at the beginning of the trial and describe the contents of a lawsuit as “baseless conspiracy theories”.
The content of the 26-page lawsuit appears to be rock solid for the time being. It also looks safe enough to survive normal court proceedings. Many describe the words of the defendant’s attorney as an attempt to destroy or reject the case. However, it is highly doubtful that this case will end at this point in time.
The defendants should better mobilize their resources to begin gathering evidence to refute the allegations made in the lawsuit.
Jones’ new team, The Tennessee Titans, has not yet commented on the lawsuit. However, a spokesman for the team admitted that management was fully aware of the lawsuit between their player and Genetixs.
More details in the lawsuit
The complaint also alleges that the company canceled the appointment of one of its managers in March after a number of violations were reported following a state inspection of the California facility. According to the complaint, the manager has since refused to submit previous cannabis sales reports, nor has he submitted all of the business papers (including budgets) owned by Genetixs.
Jones, White and the other defendants involved in the case allegedly started the illegal operations soon after the manager was fired. They sold harvested cannabis plants from the Genetics Cannabis Facility in California, whereupon all sales proceeds without proper documentation were diverted to the Genetixs board of directors in other accounts.
The Legality of the Genetixs Company
Genetixs has obtained its license to sell cannabis from the state of California.
The sale and use of marijuana for recreational purposes was legalized in January 2018. The state is home to several business companies that grow, harvest, process, and sell cannabis to retailers in the state.
Fortunately, the lawsuit states that the state expects all licensed companies to use a track-and-trace system to properly document the legal movement of cannabis and all related products through the state’s commercial supply chain.
Geneticx LLC’s board of directors alleges that the defendants’ illegal activities may now threaten them with losing their license to grow and sell cannabis in California; Julio Jones, Roddy White and two others.
What that means for Julio Jones
It appears that the Tennessee Titans management has decided to keep their comments for the time being. The board seems to be waiting for the lawsuits to close before deciding the right steps to take.
This lawsuit may well tarnish the organization as a whole if the accused are found guilty. Julio Jones can also terminate his contract if found guilty. Black market sales and money laundering are charges that cannot be trivialized.
If the case is not abandoned soon, it will be brought to justice and either Jones or White will be put on oath. Both can also be called into the booth and will be subjected to a number of questions to learn how much they are involved in the alleged crimes.
This could harm Julio Jones’ career.
In the next days / weeks …
A series of documents, emails, text messages, and other pertinent information are submitted and reviewed by both parties to determine if the case can be resolved without trial.
Only time can tell how this will develop.
