Is Low THC, High CBD Flower the Future?
Cannabis.net had the chance to sit down with one of the hottest names among the low THC and CBD flower companies in the world to see what they say about the industry, hemp, legalization, and how to get their stuff with a special coupon code!
How did you hear about the hemp / cannabis business?
Our interest in the cannabis business, particularly the low-THC alternatives that we eventually dove into, arose out of our own desire to find a cannabis product that would work for us. We have long been interested in the therapeutic properties of cannabis and its ability to effectively relieve stress and anxiety – things that seemed to be a growing constant to us. Both my business partner and I found that traditional cannabis was too high in THC and often led to anxiety-induced panic sessions – which is exactly what we were trying to avoid. When we discovered high-CBD hemp flowers, we realized that we had come across something that was a perfect fit for our lifestyle. Not only did we get all of the relaxing and therapeutic benefits of cannabis that we so enjoyed, but we also found that we can function at work and in the family without any adverse effects. Upon further investigation of various compounds, including broad spectrum CBD products and isolates, we found that the lower doses of THC and intact terpene profiles in smokable hemp flowers were essential to the desired entourage effect. We hypothesized that if we could grow and process hemp flower genetics to the same quality and standards as the medical cannabis industry, we would have something that would appeal to a lot more people than just us. These “socially dosed” or “sessionable” buds have become our mainstay and the driving force behind Cannaflower’s mission to bring low-THC cannabis to the wider market.
Cannaflower leads the way in low-THC cannabis, how big do you think the market for low-THC cannabis is?
Our personal view is that these low TCH strains are a cannabis product that has great appeal to both new and seasoned cannabis users. It’s a comparison we don’t want to rely on, but low-THC cannabis resembles a glass of wine or session beer when stacked against some of the higher percentage alcohols. Many people enjoy both, and often less is better.
The subscription box is very popular for accessories, how does it work with real flowers? How was the response?
The Cannaflower Club Box is a monthly subscription that is perfect for anyone looking to discover a curated collection of proven fan favorites as well as something different every month. In addition to some of our most popular strains, it’s also a perfect way for us to showcase some of our more exclusive strains that we just can’t offer everyone. We often add some of our newest phenotypes as well as some of our smaller batches of indoor flowers that we have very limited supplies of. Since these varieties are often single batches, we can offer the consumer a unique experience at a good price-performance ratio. So far, the response has been consistently positive.
What advice would you give to someone trying to enter the cannabis realm today?
Two things. Treat your client like you would your own family and focus on one thing and do it really well. With so many products on the market, many of which are of questionable quality, it’s important to offer the consumer a product that you can stand behind with a brand that they can trust.
What are Cannaflower’s plans to expand now that their products are allowed to ship to all 50 states, right?
We are currently shipping federally legal, low-THC flowers to all 50 states. As for our expansion strategy in these markets, we decided to just focus on making our products and services as great as possible. We constantly strive to inspire our customers. We found that focusing on the best overall customer experience has allowed us to grow very organically and scalably.
Which Cannaflower Products Are Most Popular Right Now, Daytime, Downtime, Anytime?
In addition to many of our fan favorites like Lifter, Sour Space Candy, and Bubba Kush, we’ve seen great interest in our indoor strains in small batches lately. We’re having a hard time keeping up with the demand for indoor strains like Orange Glaze, Gelato Sunset, and Cherry Chip. In general, we have seen a significant increase in interest in indoor flowers across the market.
What was the biggest hurdle for you in building up and founding the company?
Cannabis companies, including those in the low THC range, face a myriad of challenges that most companies in conventional markets never need to address. Simple things like banking, insurance, marketing, and trading services can often present unique hurdles that need to be solved using creative approaches and non-traditional partnerships. We spent our entire first year dealing with these issues.
When do you think we will see full legalization of cannabis?
While we seem on the cusp of national legalization, it is likely not in the immediate future (within the next year). Most of it has to do with regulatory and compliance issues that have yet to be proven on a large scale. It will be a huge challenge to reverse the last half century of draconian laws surrounding cannabis while creating the infrastructure to ensure a sensible and equitable transition to full legality. Most of this is realistically best handled at the state level, but it would be absolutely in the interest of our society to push fair banking and decriminalization at the federal level as soon as possible. While many states have made the leap, large numbers of people in this country are still wrongly suffering as outdated laws surrounding cannabis continue to be enforced.
Will cannaflower ever enter the higher THC cannabis market?
While we’re looking forward to a day joining the larger cannabis market, we have found that the low-THC products we offer are the ones we believe in the most and that allow us to deliver a consistently premium customer experience to offer. Low THC is just what we love.
