Important tips for a perfect Wake & Bake
People woke up and baked long before pharmacies opened up across the country. Some people wake up every day and bake. Others enjoy it on special occasions. Maybe you have a long rainy weekend ahead and want to try it for the first time.
Whether it’s your first time or you did it yesterday, know that while waking up and baking isn’t an exact science, there certainly is an art to it. From choosing between indica and sativa to deciding whether an edible or vape pen is right for you, all sorts of choices can — and will — transform your wake-and-bake journey. But fear not, as long as you consider the following factors, you can have a successful and blissful wake and bake experience.
Smoking, drinking, eating or vaping?
When deciding in the morning whether to eat, drink, vape, or smoke your weed, you really only have to consider how much time you have and how you want to feel. If you want to stay high for most of the day, edibles are the way to go. They enter slowly and will fold into your entire morning and afternoon. Just be ready to get high for 6 hours (or more).
If you want to feel normal later in the day, smoking or vaping are good ideas. If you don’t smoke often, a vape pen might be a good idea. Smoking in the morning can feel particularly hard for those who don’t smoke regularly. Otherwise the smoking works perfectly.
If you are a beginner, consider a lower dose cannabis drink. They go down easily, often have vitamins, and hit your bloodstream quickly. This way you will feel the effects quickly and be able to better control your high.
Indica or Sativa?
When it comes to waking up and baking, most enthusiasts agree that sativa is the way to go. high times once said, “If you wake up and bake with anything other than a sativa, you’re doing something wrong.” This is because indica is known to calm and soothe you. In other words, it can put you back to sleep.

However, if sativa makes you a little anxious, consider a hybrid. Or if indica doesn’t leave you feeling lethargic and mellow, use whatever strain works for you – just make sure you’re sleeping well and have your coffee in hand. But generally creative and energetic sativa strains like sour diesel are the way to go for most wake-and-bake trips.

Perfect pairings for a wake & bake
Nitro Cold Brew: As we reported Cannabis and coffee used to be a trendy combo these days. This caffeinated beverage is a great all morning cold drink. It pairs well with edibles as it is highly potent, but if taken slowly, the caffeine will continue to flow through your system.
A healthy breakfast: Don’t skip breakfast. In fact, planning ahead for a hearty and nutritious breakfast is a great way to boost your high without weighing you down. Oil-based foods made with oil-based edibles can help the edibles last longer. Avoid fried foods and opt for natural fats like avocados.
Consider snacking to complement your high: In addition to your breakfast, consider foods that can amplify your high. As we did before reported, foods like mangoes, curries, and even a beer can help further intensify your wake-and-bake experience. That doesn’t mean you should get drunk on beer before noon, but maybe get one with your curry for lunch.
Shower right after smoking or pop an edible
Showering after smoking or while you’re getting ready for your edible to kick in is a great way to feel refreshed and get your day started. It’s all too easy to smoke and then be lazy. Showering will drive away the smell of smoke and prepare you to enjoy the benefits of THC instead of wallowing in a stoned stupor.

Prepare a playlist or activities in advance
according to a review of time estimation studies: “A distorted sense of time is one of the most common effects of cannabis reported by users.” The review goes on to say that nearly 70% of studies suggest that cannabis users overestimate how much time has passed. While more research needs to be done on this topic, it’s clear that waking up and baking can easily make the day go by. It is best to plan in advance the activity you want to do with some time parameters. Don’t miss the day entirely (unless that’s your goal).
Go shopping the day before
Don’t be the high person staring into an empty fridge. Be prepared and indulge in high-energy brain foods like healthy options that include fruits and vegetables. It’s best to avoid anything that involves a lot of chopping or using the stove – just to be safe.
sleep well
One of the key ingredients to a successful wake and bake is getting a good night’s sleep beforehand. If you wake up feeling groggy or lethargic, while THC can alleviate some of your discomfort, it cannot magically turn you into an energetic and excited person. Make sure you get the full 8 hours if possible. If you wake up feeling crappy, maybe save yourself waking up and baking for another day.
Delete the schedule
Don’t be too ambitious. Sure, maybe your creative juices will be flowing after a wake and bake, but don’t plan on writing poetry and painting several watercolors before lunch. Clean up your schedule and set realistic and well-intentioned goals.
