“I smell weed,” the mayor of NYC said happily about the wet and cold Times Square
The mayor couldn’t contain his delight after catching a whiff of weed during a press conference in Manhattan. This is how elected leaders should deal with the scent of freedom.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been an outspoken advocate for cannabis use throughout the Big Apple since taking office.
Most notably, in May, Mayor Adams urged New Yorkers and visitors to “light up” without fear of legal repercussions. And last week he appeared to be stepping on the gas ahead of a press conference in the heart of the city.
Basically, Mayor Adams couldn’t stop acting like that one uncle on Thanksgiving you always regret sharing a blunt with.
“A law that’s been passed is clearly being practiced right now because I smell some weed,” Mayor Adams said while concluding a news conference on a new concealed carry-arms law. He continued, “Somebody’s smoking something-” before finally bursting into a fit of giggles.
The sound he let out was similar to the viral chuckle NBA player Kawhi Leonard blessed the world with in 2018.

The live microphones from the mayor’s office picked up no audience reaction to Mayor Adams’ humorous observation. He let the Seinfeldian joke land slowly, then brought it home by pointing out of frame at a friend he might have shared a blunt or two with in the past.
“Do you smell this Marcia?”

Unlike the tennis player who stopped the US Open because he smelled weed, Mayor Adams gets it. New Yorkers will smoke the top of the joint whether you like it or not. So you might as well laugh at it like the mayor, or roll up your own and join in the fun.
Check out the live moment below. The mayor makes his comment at 9:50 p.m.
