I Accidentally Got High…on Full Spectrum CBD!

FAILURE TO GET HIGH WITH CBD?

As funny as this sounds, some people have mistakenly gotten high in their search for a reliable and good CBD brand. I have experienced that too – at least on six different occasions. I found that not all broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD brands meet the federally allowed 0.3 percent limit for THC in a CBD-based product. Not to mention I used more than the recommended dose.

There are hundreds of CBD brands on the market today, and it’s almost impossible to know which ones you would love the most unless you try a few. The first time I accidentally got high was after taking five CBD capsules. It turned out that each cap contained a small but significant amount of THC in addition to its CBD content. I never thought I could get high from it because, as we all know, CBD products are not meant to be intoxicating. I had no way of knowing that the 80mg CBD gelcaps I had ingested contained more than the accepted amount of THC.

While the high wasn’t pronounced, I can’t help but think about what it would have meant to uninformed and less tolerant CBD patients, the elderly, and any other cannabis newbie who has never been high. Sadly, for some of these people, the experience alone could turn them off from all forms of cannabis.

Microdosing of cannabinoids

Up until the last decade, most people had to deal with illegal cannabis products. Some even still live in states where cannabis is not legal. Getting high in these places is not common; However, CBD is accessible thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill. Imagine you are used to CBD products and one day you get high. It can be a very confusing experience.

As more people learn about and experience cannabinoids, they appreciate the value of cannabis and hemp plants. Consumed in small doses, THC can be psychoactive and therapeutic. In order not to be surprised by small amounts of THC in CBD products, it is advisable to sometimes microdose.

A 2017 study by Bilkei-Gorzo, published in Nature Medicine, discovered that low doses of THC in adult mice temporarily restored their social recognition, cognitive, and memory activities to levels observed in healthy young mice.

In addition, the THC microdosing procedure enhanced molecular activities related to cell development, synapse development, and cell signaling. In addition, it had a positive impact on genes linked to longer lifespans, improved cognition, and a gene known to protect against Alzheimer’s. After treatment, some improvements lasted for several weeks.

The research team wrote that microdosing THC for older adults has an excellent safety record and little to no side effects. They also noted that early cognitive decline in older people could potentially be reversed with continuous, inexpensive treatment with either THC or cannabinoids.

That same year, scientists led by Yusef Sarne on the neurobiology of aging created a study to test whether age-related cognitive deficits in aged mice could be reversed by a very modest dose of THC. The authors state that their results indicate this[ing] that incredibly low doses of THC without any psychotic effects…can be an effective and safe treatment for cognitive problems in aging individuals.

This study is good news for Alzheimer’s patients and their offspring who are predisposed to it. Microdosing THC can reduce the degenerative process in both old and young adults. Fortunately, at least 34 states now allow their citizens to use CBD-rich oil extracts with a tiny dose of THC to prevent, treat, and manage cognitive and neurodegenerative diseases.

Balancing CBD and THC

Using CBD and THC products as daily supplements is a good idea for both old and young adults. Both cannabinoids work better together and in conjunction with other cannabinoids and terpenes (the entourage effect).

In 1999, an Israeli team of researchers found that whole plants are, in some cases, better medicines than their isolates or extracts. In 2009, another group of scientists led by Sean McAllister studied the relationship between the main cannabinoids (THC and CBD) in the brain and the best cancer cells.

The research team led by McAllister concluded that CBD is the most potent inhibitor of several aggressive malignancies after testing a variety of cannabinoids for their anti-cancer effects. But when CBD and THC are combined, McAllister said in a YouTube presentation of the results of his team’s study; They enhance the anti-cancer effects of CBD.

Additionally, according to McAllister, when CBD and THC were combined with aggressive brain tumor cells in culture plates, there was a synergistic enhancement in THC’s ability to both stop the proliferation of those cells and trigger cell death, which is crucial because you want to kill those tumor cells so they can’t multiply again.

Should You Worry About Getting Accidentally High?

A medical practitioner, Dr. Dustin Sulak, who focuses on osteopathic and medicinal cannabis, recently spoke about the side effects and benefits of getting high from cannabis.

Sulak listed several side effects, including memory loss, confusion, anxiety, psychosis, incoordination, drowsiness, and fatigue. He emphasized that these are common side effects in his practice, typically related to excessive THC doses and factors of a particular mindset and environment.

Cannabis-induced euphoria is of vital importance to many suffering patients, while being disparagingly described as an unpleasant side effect in numerous scientific articles. According to Sulak, it involves having a happy attitude, relaxing, laughing, socializing, and warping time, which helps them get into the present now.

He further explained that people could regain the natural joy they get from healthy activities in their lives, such as eating, listening to music, engaging in sexual activity, just socializing, walking, and smelling flowers when used specifically for encouragement becomes a process of enjoyment, he says. This type of cannabis use can help patients separate their ailments from the positive aspects of their lives, such as joy and important people.

Conclusion

All users of CBD products can accidentally get high at some point. Therefore, they need to be educated in advance on what to do if this occurs and they need to be informed that it is always best to stick to the recommended doses on the labels and from their doctors.

In the end, a little high never hurts.
