How to properly store weed
Now that you know how long weed can last, you need to know how to properly store weed.
Weed only lasts if you store it properly, use the right container, and maintain the right conditions, and even then it will break down over time.

Check the temperature
One of the most important factors when storing weed is the right temperature. Anything around 21 degrees Celsius should be fine. Basically, this is room temperature for most people. Any temperature that is too high can lead to mold growth, especially if the environment is also humid or the grass is in contact with moisture.
Even in arid climate zones, high heat always leads to the development of moisture. That being said, too cold or even freezing temperatures are also not suitable as this will also cause damage to terpenes and trichomes. Store your weed in an area where the temperature can be easily controlled and definitely not near devices that produce heat such as heaters, radiators and more.
Eliminate exposure to light and oxygen
Light and oxygen are two culprits that are often responsible for the aging or deterioration of items, especially organic and consumable items. Scientists have long known that UV light breaks down weed through the process of converting THC into another type of cannabinoid that has no psychoactive effects. While consuming this type of degraded weed is not as harmful as consuming moldy weed, it is also just a waste of time.
The same goes for oxygen exposure, as the terpenes and cannabinoids in your weed are broken down as it dries out, and oxygen exposure can speed up the drying process. Oxidation can cause various foods to become unpleasant, and the same can happen with weeds by changing their color and smell. Because of this, you should limit the frequency of opening and closing the reservoir.
Avoid moisture and moisture
One of the biggest things you want to avoid when it comes to temperature control is excess humidity and moisture build-up.
Humidity is the main reason for the development of mold or mildew. This can occur in both cooler and warmer temperatures, although it’s more common in the latter. The good news is that nowadays there are products like moisture packs. You can keep them in the container with your weed, and these moisture packs should help keep moisture levels to a minimum.
Find the right container

The best thing you can do to store weed properly is to find the right container. Here are some characteristics that your weed container should meet:
- Opaque: This blocks unwanted UV light
- Green or brown colored: Unless you have an opaque container, containers in these colors can withstand UV light. Because of this, beer bottles are usually green or brown.
- airtight: Your storage container should have a reliable closure. A good example is a pill bottle as they are already designed to be more airtight than Tupperware or other containers. You can wrap the pill bottles in paper to make them opaque.
- The right size: If you only have a small amount of weed, don’t use a container that is too large. Too much space can lead to moisture build-up and makes it easier for bacteria to be introduced. Mason jars are usually a good size for most users, although you should try wrapping the jar in paper as well.
Now that you have the right container, make sure you store it in a dark, cool, and dry place. Pantries, bookshelves, and desk drawers are good candidates.
