How to add daily self-care
Some days are crazier than others, but if you incorporate some self-care daily, every day can be more positive.
Not every day can be easy, fun and productive, but with a little effort, it doesn't have to be 24 hours. Some days are more stressful and difficult, but there are a few things you can do to ease the strain and help both your physical and mental health. Routine is key because it's hard to remind ourselves to think about ourselves. Especially because it's easier for most to default and spend time scrolling through screens.

As children, we are taught behavior through repetition. Many educators find that children respond well to a routine because research shows that consistent, positive practices can reduce anxiety. Most people fall into a pattern that may not be helpful or healthy. Add points throughout the day to set our bodies in something positive. Here's how to add daily self-care.
Find something positive
Find at least one positive thing to appreciate every day. Whether it's a good cup of coffee, music in the shower, or a smile on your face – you'll see it will have an almost immediate effect. Mix it up so your brain is registering positive feedback throughout the day. It might even allow itself to laugh at a dad joke every day.
Go outside
Fresh air and exercise are two things that help the body adapt. Despite the weather, it's a test of strength for the brain. Not only does it cleanse your lungs, it can also lift your mood, lower your heart rate, increase energy levels, and even improve digestion. Take a few minutes each day to chat and take a short walk – it doesn't have to be long – around the block, from the back of the parking lot, or from one building to the next. The tension of the air will is good and the exercise helps your body recalibrate.

Find a mentally happy place
While meditation is one way to find peace, it is not the only way. Meditation can be practiced whenever you have some peace and can close your eyes and breathe deeply for a few minutes.
You can also find your happy place in your mind when you think about or plan a favorite trip, hobby or location, prepare a favorite dish, or plan your dream meal. Shower time is the perfect place for this. Take a few minutes to think about life alone, with no sounds other than the water (or singing, if that's your happy place).

Avoid your phone
Despite the many ways a cell phone can help your life, it can also be the bearer of bad news. Emails, calls, etc. cause disruption. Set boundaries for yourself – only watch it for a set amount of time in the morning. Instead of scrolling through news screens, play solataire/patience. Find a time of day when you don't need it, such as when you're concentrating on something like reading, stretching, or watching a show. Put your phone close to you or keep it completely out of sight.
Above all, make sure you and your phone don't sleep together. Give him a gentle “goodnight” at least 20 minutes before bedtime.
