Happy 4/20 – here is a brief overview of the industry
If anyone has this 4/20 reason to celebrate, it’s cannabis science. The weed glut has become pervasive in many constitutional states, causing the price of weed to drop drastically. The other reason to celebrate is that the stigma attached to weed is fading, which is a huge benefit for those who use medical marijuana, especially veterans with PTSD.

The customer should feel it in their wallet – weed gets cheaper when you factor in excessive taxes in some states. In the last two years, Colorado weed prices have plummeted 51%, according to a BDSA report. Wholesale weed prices are down 36% and 46% in Massachusetts and Missouri, respectively. Things are even worse in Michigan, where prices have fallen a whopping 75% over the past two years.
Medical marijuana
About nine out of ten Americans say marijuana should be legal for medical or recreational use, according to an October 2022 Pew Research Center poll. An overwhelming majority of US adults (88%) say marijuana should either be legal for medical and recreational use (59%) or that it should be legal only for medical use should (30%). One in ten say the drug should not be legal in any form. These views have held as of April 2021.

Legalization of marijuana
Support for legalizing marijuana has increased dramatically over the past two decades. In addition to specific questions about the drug’s medical and recreational uses, the center previously asked Americans about the legalization of marijuana use in general. In 2019, when the center last asked this question, two-thirds of adults expressed support for marijuana legalization, more than double the number in a 2000 Gallup poll who said they supported the support legalization. CA Gov. Newsom is also pushing for federal legalization — perhaps it’s a way he sees fixing the mess the state has created for legal operators. President Biden and his administration should heed this and pass federal legalization — the public wants it, patients need it, and veterans deserve it.
April 20th has become an international counterculture holiday based around the celebration and use of cannabis. Whether you’re a consumer or not, it’s a great day to relax, be kind to those around you, take a deep breath and enjoy your journey.
