GOP Congressman Slams Biden Over ‘Marijuana Treason’

Of Nicolas Jose Rodriguez

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) has called President Joe Biden an “unruly boomer” and criticized him for the lack of marijuana reform, a policy change he has been campaigning for, Marijuana Moment reported.

The congressman made the age comments during an episode of his Firebrand podcast. He contrasted his stance on legalization with that of President Biden.

Gaetz boasted that he was one of only three Republican members of the House of Representatives to vote in favor of a Democrat-led bill ending federal cannabis prohibition, while Biden opposes legalizing adult-use marijuana.

“[The] The real issue here is Joe Biden’s betrayal of marijuana,” he said, referring to Biden’s campaign pledge to wipe records and decriminalize cannabis.

“Joe Biden, where are you? The House has passed legislation. That’s one of your demands from the President, and it walks toward a death in the Senate,” he added. “I’m here to remind you and [Vice President Kamala Harris]: You miss a crucial moment for a political achievement. Do as you say, and with the stroke of a pen from the President, we could have sweeping marijuana reform in this country.”

“Bad news for Big Pharma”

Gaetz also pointed to a study that found a link between the legalization of adult use in states and a decline in prescription drug use. “Bad news for Big Pharma,” he said.

“In Florida, we will benefit greatly from streamlined research grants to learn more and help more people unleash potential. However, the conclusion of this study is that recreational use of cannabis is weaning people off prescription drugs – it’s just hard to ignore,” Gaetz added. “Unfortunately, even with legitimate research and factual basis and evidence at hand, this turbulent journey lies ahead. The cultural stigma of the boomer era is severe.”
