German Hemp Parade – Cannabis | weed | marijuana

Hundreds of Germans took part in the annual Hanfparade in Berlin last Saturday. According to police estimates, 600 people took part in the German Hanfparade.

The parade started at Berlin’s Red City Hall and continued along the Unter den Linden boulevard to Alexanderplatz.

The German Hanfparade is an annual cannabis demonstration that began in 1997. The aim of the protest, like on April 20th or 20th, is to raise awareness about cannabis and to achieve the legalization of cannabis.

Every year the German Hanfparade has a motto. With the federal government planning legalization, this year’s motto was “Hemp is great for peace and climate.”

We can only agree.

Critics of German legalization

The German coalition government plans to legalize cannabis. The cabinet is meeting this week to consider the legislation.

According to the proposed law, cannabis-centric non-profit clubs will grow and distribute the plant. However, German residents can grow three plants at home for their own use.

The German government expects to save €1 billion ($1.11 billion) by ending the war on cannabis. Contrast this with the Canadian government, which told taxpayers that legalization would cost money and require more resources for the police.

But while the German Hanfparade is a popular event, not everyone is excited about the legalization.

The German Association of Judges assumes that a small-scale legalization of associations will lead to new disputes that will take up court time. They also believe it will have little impact on the “illegal” market.

The German Police Union is also critical of the legalization of cannabis. In her opinion, the bill does not go far enough when it comes to describing how the police will enforce the new rules.

“I hope that the Federal Ministry of Health does not think that our colleagues would measure the required 200 meters between a consumer and a daycare center with a tape measure,” said a spokesman for the police union to the German Press Agency.

Opposition parties are also critical of the draft law. They assume that this will result in “a real bureaucracy monster that can hardly be controlled anymore,” said Kristine Lütke of the Rheinische Post.

She wants cannabis legalization “to offer real protection for young people” while not burdening the police and judiciary.

As a representative of the Free Democratic Party, Lütke also rejects property restrictions. “Nobody controls how many bottles of wine someone keeps in the cellar,” she said.

This year’s German Hanfparade had fewer participants than in previous years. Some may attribute this to the German government’s legalization plan.

But even if the draft law comes into force, it will not get to the core of the message of the German Hanfparade: “Hemp is great for peace and climate.”

It’s a topic we’ve already covered. To date, no attempt to legalize cannabis has shaped the debate in this way. Authorities link cannabis to taxes. They assume that people want to get high, and for many, that’s the only goal.

But cannabis is more than just THC. The German Hanfparade is convinced that hemp is excellent for peace and the climate. Do we agree. Here are ten reasons why.

10. The German Hanfparade is right when it comes to soil health

The German Hanfparade is right when it advertises cannabis beyond its THC content.

Our industrialized agricultural system is destroying the soil. Hemp’s deep root system helps prevent soil erosion, improves soil structure, and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. If the world cannot grow food because of poor soil, the wars and conflicts of the last century will seem child’s play by comparison.

9. Reduced deforestation

Hemp is a sustainable alternative to wood. Whether for paper or building materials, hemp ends deforestation and the resulting conflict between industry and environmentalists. It’s criminal for politicians to impose “carbon taxes” while ignoring that elephant in the room.

8. Carbon sequestration and water

The German Hanfparade is right when it comes to protecting the environment with hemp. Hemp absorbs more CO2 from the atmosphere compared to many other crops. In addition, hemp requires less water than conventional crops such as cotton. This is particularly important in arid regions and thus reduces conflicts.

7. The German Hanfparade is right when it comes to renewable energy

We can use hemp as a biomass crop to produce clean and renewable energy through biofuel production and anaerobic digestion. Instead of relying on ineffective and heavily subsidized “renewable” energy or Russian oil, the Germans can build a hemp biofuel industry.

6. Biodegradable products

A hemp industry ends the conflict between people worried about plastics in our environment and people who love owning things. We can produce biodegradable plastics from hemp fibers and thus promote peace and the climate.

5. Medical Benefits

Hemp-derived products like CBD have garnered attention for their health benefits. As people age and live longer, healthcare systems around the world are coming under pressure. Hemp has the power to reduce bad health outcomes.

4. Food security

Cannabis is a vegetable. Its seeds are a nutritious source of protein, essential fatty acids, and other nutrients. Anyone can grow hemp. No capital-intensive production methods or much water are required. In 2023, no one should starve.

3. Cultural and Social Benefits

The German Hanfparade is right when it comes to cannabis promoting peace. Bob Dylan put it best: “Everyone needs to get stoned.”

Promoting cannabis cultivation can bring people together. Through cultural practices or traditions, hemp can promote social cohesion and reduce tensions in certain regions.

2. Research and Innovation

Additional cannabis research may lead to the development of new technologies and applications that promote peace and climate.

1. The German Hanfparade is right when it comes to the local economy

A free market in hemp cultivation offers economic opportunities. Nothing encourages conflict like 1% of the population controlling 99% of the economy.

By refocusing our industry on cannabis, we can create a system that strengthens rather than undermines social stability. One surefire way is to promote hashcoins, thus eliminating the power to create money out of thin air and charge interest on it.
