Gen z increase in alcohol consumption without cutting cannabis
Gen z The use of alcohol increases, what does it mean for cannabis?
In recent years, Z – Z – Born between 1997 and 2012, has shown that wellness, moderation and conscious consumption are clearly preferred. Early studies and cultural trends pointed out a decline in alcohol consumption in this generation compared to their thousands and gene X predecessors. But now gen z seems to be increasing alcohol absorption by cutting cannabis. Fresh data indicate a change in the habits. Z begins to drink more alcohol, and researchers and industry observers ask important questions. What does that mean for cannabis and alcohol?
Relatives: The best refreshing cocktails
The latest market research shows that alcohol sales have started to increase modestly among younger adults. Factors such as pandemic socialization, the normalization of hybrid work environments and the targeted marketing through alcohol brands may contribute to this increase.
But does an increased alcohol consumption at Gen Z means that you turn away from cannabis? Not quite. In fact, the relationship seems to be more complementary than competitive.

Several studies and consumer surveys suggest, while Z drinks more than before, cannabis use remains steadily or even increases. In contrast to earlier generations, which often considered alcohol and cannabis as either/or as substances, gen z seems to be regarded in a broader lifestyle of curated experiences as side by side. For example, someone could decide for a glass of wine with dinner and a THC-infused rubber to handle before going to bed-and both substances in different contexts.
This double consumption pattern is particularly evident in states in which leisure scannabis is legal. Pharmacies report a growing number of gene Z consumers who search for low-dose food, vapes and drinks that reflect the social and experimental aspects of alcohol.
This developing behavior has an economical effect. Alcohol brands shift their strategies to ensure the preference of gene Z for the quality of the quantity and to promote premium cocktails and drinks with low ABV. In the meantime, the cannabis industry is also activated, where Z appears as an important growth driver. The sale of cannabis drinks, microdsed foods and slim vape products increases, especially in urban markets and countries in which marijuana is legal. Together, these industries adapt to a generation that evaluates the adaptation, aesthetics and hybrid consumption.
Relatives: How to have a personalized cannabis experience
Ultimately, gen Z does not only enter the footsteps of older cohorts – you rewrite the game book. With greater intentionality, they approach substances, technology, food and even sex, whereby they often question traditional norms and prefer experiences before excess. Regardless of whether it is your digital language skills, your developing views on relationships or the appetite for herbal dining, gen z defines a new cultural paradigm one, in which cannabis and alcohol are only two ingredients in a much larger lifestyle mix.
