Forget gas station CBD, gas station weed is coming to Florida!

Green Thumb Industries Inc. (OTC: GTBIF), a multi-state cannabis company, and Circle K Stores, an American network of convenience stores, have partnered. Under the agreement, Green Thumb will sell legal marijuana to Circle K gas stations in Florida, according to Bloomberg. The initial idea of the two merging made sense as Cananbis.net reported on the Fire and Flower and Circle K connection here.

Sales will begin at 10 of the company’s 600 locations in the Sunshine State in 2023. According to Ben Kovler, CEO of Green Thumb, sales of cannabis “would continue to normalize” when combined with other consumer goods. This agreement is long-term.

It’s possible that marijuana could be fully accepted by society if sold in places where people commonly buy groceries and cigarettes. Green Thumb will reportedly lease space from Circle K stores, and both companies will split the profits.

Fuel and weed at Circle K

Green Thumb Industries Inc. announced Wednesday that it intends to use its agreement with Circle K to expand the retail space available for its Florida medical marijuana business. Soon you’ll be able to fill up and buy a joint at the same Florida gas station. This isn’t “gas station CBD” that’s been popping up across the country either, this is the real cannabis with THC.

Approximately 10 Green Thumb branded “RISE Express” dispensaries will be deployed in various regions of Florida adjacent to Circle K stores as part of the test and learn phase of implementation beginning in 2023. The exact locations of the selected stores are not yet known, but several reporters say they have contacted the stores to find out where they are located. Circle K will only rent Green Thumb space from them; Circle K already has about 600 stores in Florida. The “RISE Express” outlets will offer patients branded cannabis products including flower, concentrates, pre-rolls and vapes.

Green Thumb also stated that their brand new 28-acre cultivation facility in Ocala will be operational by the end of 2022 and will supply the products sold at these retail locations. The owner of Alimentation Couche-Tard, based in Circle K, Quebec, Canada, clarified that Circle K would not offer marijuana for sale in its territories in the United States, but in adjacent spaces adjacent to the stores. Ben Kovler also noted that the agreement with Circle K would make it faster and more efficient for patients to purchase high-quality cannabis as part of their regular routine while stopping by their local grocery store.

According to the Florida Department of Health, more than 700,000 Floridans currently have active cards enrolled in the state’s medical marijuana program.

Latest initiative to legalize marijuana in Florida

Previous attempts to legalize adult use in the state have been rejected and denied by the Florida Supreme Court. Smart & Safe Florida’s policy committee believes the text of their proposed amendment to the state’s marijuana law will succeed and prevent such a discussion.

The Bellamy Brothers feature in the first campaign ad exploring the impact of legalizing recreational use on civil liberties and employment opportunities. The largest medical marijuana company in the state, Trulieve, supports the budding measure.

To get the campaign off the ground, Trulieve is contributing $5 million in seed capital. However, the company’s CEO, Kim Rivers, stated that they also expect financial support from other industry players.

The Florida Supreme Court has rejected later attempts to bring broader legalization to the ballot, even though Florida voters approved a 2016 constitutional amendment for medical cannabis. The court found that the language of the proposed actions by Make It Legal Florida and Sensible Florida was fallacious, invalidating them. In a discussion with the Florida News Service, Rivers said that every effort to decriminalize cannabis in the state has brought the team and her some form of learning.

Medicinal cannabis in Florida

As of June 16, 2014, Florida joined the group of 22 states that have partially authorized access to medical marijuana. Patients with cancer, seizure disorders, recurring seizures, or muscle spasms were allowed to consume low-THC cannabis products recommended by a licensed physician. Both doctors and patients had to register with the Compassionate Use Registry, an online database organized by the Florida Department of Health. The governor also passed Senate Bill 1700, which protects the privacy of patients and medical professionals who support low-THC cannabis.

With the passage of State Bill 307 in March 2016, terminally ill patients whose treating physicians had less than a year to live were given access to medical marijuana at its maximum potency. Finally, in November 2016, 71% of Florida voters approved full legalization of medical marijuana.

bottom line

As giants in their industry, there’s ample reason to believe that the partnership will promote medicinal cannabis not just within the state, but across the country.
