Finally an e-rig with total temperature control

Precise temperature control and a streamlined design make the AUXO Cira ideal for stoners with high demands (and accessible to beginners). Find out how our author put Cira to the test.
Dry herb vaporizers have had precise temperature control since the days of giant tabletop devices. Why is it so rare with e-rigs, even when they apply to be “smart”? “Variable temperature,” which usually means the product has around four temperature settings, isn’t that exciting, and it’s stupid to keep a good quality e-rig to the same standards as a cheap 510 cartridge battery. Each concentrate will thrive at different temperature settings depending on the strain, its terpene profile, and chemistry, and an investment piece should help you get there.
Enter the AUXO-Cira.
Last month, AUXO released this sleek little device with patent-pending heating coil technology that can heat up between 450 and 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s also cheaper than many similar premium rigs: the entire kit costs $ 179.99.
It sounds too good to be true, but we’ve tried it ourselves and it’s (a) real, (b) exactly what it says on the label, and (c) it’s fun to use. It’s a small, streamlined device that doesn’t occupy your coffee table – you could very easily take it with you on a walk if you watch out for the glass.
Here is our experience.

Unpacking the AUXO Cira
Since there are few separate parts for the cira, it was easy to get the location of the land straight away. The box unfolds like a book or suitcase, and each piece is stowed in its cozy little foam compartment instead of a pile of bubble wrap. It’s also a great protective case for the device.
The kit is simple but thorough. One side holds the base with the heating element, the mouthpiece made of hand-blown borosilicate glass, titanium and quartz bangers and the carb cab with silicone leash. The other has accessories like the charging station, charging cable, and cleaning swabs, as well as a metal swab tool.
We plugged it in immediately and everything was charged when we were ready for a session a few hours later. Not a lot of assembly is required here: the piece of glass is in one with bubbler, mouthpiece and dome, and the whole thing glides gently and safely over the screw-bang. For experienced dabbers, it’s tidy and time-saving; for newbies to dabbing, it simplifies the process.
It was a bit of a chore to fill the bubbler, but it was worth it: this stoner, a chronic fluid spreader, never managed to spill it even when using it in an awkward corner of the couch.
An unexpected twist: the charging station is more than just an accessory and must remain (unplugged) on the underside of the device during each session. Fortunately, it was mostly able to stay alone there.
That’s dabbing with the AUXO Cira
Fine tuning the heat is the main function of this gadget, but it is a dream too. It’s light and compact, and since there aren’t too many parts, there isn’t much to do. All touchable areas of the Cira – i.e. outside the dome and the heating element – stayed cool to the touch, no matter how long we used them. One more point for those at risk of accidents among us. It also just feels good in the hand, with just the right amount of grip and no bulk. You can operate this device with absolutely one hand.
Each function is performed with just two buttons (+ and -) and a clear LCD display, but the process is streamlined to be intuitive. Long press and double tap protect the device from accidentally switching on or heating up.

We went for the quartz banger and dabbed two very different varieties extracted into similar concentrates: crispy crystalline pink sands and cheeky garlic breath honey crystals.

Because there are so many temperature options, it took a few sessions to get just the right heat. But in doing so, we really managed to find the right balance between taste and texture – we were looking for enough cloud to enjoy the experience without having a coughing fit or burning the terpenes, which is a difficult tightrope walk if you only have a limited one Have number of settings. The ability to adjust to all five degrees made it a lot more doable.
It turns out that precise temperature control comes in extremely handy even when using similar types of concentrates. Sweet, tropical pink sand was gently but noticeably dabbed at 650 degrees. Garlic Breath, on the other hand, demanded a bit more drama with 825 and gave denser clouds its full, funky taste. Once you’ve found the sweet spot for a concentrate, you can easily reproduce it in the next session thanks to the constant temperature of the Cira.
Fresh concentrate works best in the Cira. We tried to be frugal and stretch some pre-dabbed dabs, but found that they usually needed a temperature boost to deliver those second-hand hits. About 50 degrees more did the trick – an adjustment we could never have made without this level of control.
The long-lasting battery also works as promised: More than two weeks later, it was still chugging.

Group sessions with Cira
The Cira experience is extremely efficient: it counts down its 20-second heat-up time on the no-frills LCD display and starts a timer for 30 seconds after it has warmed up. It is enough for one or two people to get a sip or three, although enough vapor will build up in the chamber that you normally get after a few sips.
If you want to pass a whole circle, you can add 15 seconds to the timer once the timer goes below 10 seconds. Just tap the “+” button twice.
