The series' author, JK Rowling, is quoted in Bon Appetit as saying, “I invented it. I imagine it to taste a bit like less sweet butterscotch.” So why not try making some yourself? Butterscotch came about in the mid-19th century and the main ingredients are brown sugar and butter. Although it's not as popular as chocolate or vanilla, it's still a popular sweet, especially hard candy.
