Researchers collected data from over 92,000 people over nearly three decades (1990-2018). Participants were asked questions including how often they used olive oil in their diet. Those who consumed the most olive oil had a lower risk of dying compared to those who did not consume olive oil (19% lower risk of dying from systemic and cardiovascular diseases, 17% lower risk of dying from cancer, 29% lower risk of dying from neurodegenerative diseases ). , and more).
“Clinicians should advise patients to replace certain fats, such as margarine and butter, with olive oil to improve their health,” said one of the study’s authors. “Our study helps provide specific recommendations that patients can easily understand and hopefully translate into their diet.”
