Doobies for Boobies – Arizona Dispensary Trading Joints for bras to fight breast cancer
In anticipation of the upcoming Breast Cancer Education Month, in October, a Phoenix area cannabis dispensary chain has launched a campaign with a nonprofit in Arizona.
The pharmacy chain is giving free pre-rolled joints to Arizona customers who donate a bra or more to the campaign.
The campaign is commendable because breast cancer is one, if not the main form of cancer that is shortening the lives of many Arizona women. Awareness campaigns like this one help residents know and not need the dos in order to prevent breast cancer.
Buds ‘n’ Bras campaign
This campaign is organized by the non-profit groups Mint Cannabis and Check for a Lump. Their main goal is to better shed light on the urgent need for breast screenings. Early detection of breast cancer during these screenings is sometimes the fine line between life and death. The collaboration also aims to raise funds to support breast cancer patients as well as other related support services.
The campaign has already started and will end in October. Cannabis dispensary customers in the Phoenix area will have access to donate new or used bras for as long as they are 21 years of age or older. Three locations are planned for this. The Mint’s three larger cannabis stores in Phoenix already have packs of pre-rolls that are given out in exchange for bras.
The organizers also announced that women who donate up to 10 bras are entitled to a breast cancer awareness t-shirt. In order to keep cannabis consumption within limits, a limit of one pre-rolled joint and one shirt per customer was set for each day of the campaign.
For every donated bra, the Check for a Lump group receives a monetary donation. The Mint announced that its target number of bras that would be collected over the seven weeks is 4,200. The Minit Group will also donate $ 1 from every pre-roll sale during the campaign to participating nonprofits.
Breast Cancer Awareness in 2020
Not much could be done for breast cancer patients in the past year, and very little was done to raise awareness about breast cancer during the pandemic. This is because the entire focus was on finding a permanent solution to the devastating COVID-19 virus.
In several countries around the world, other sectors of health care unrelated to supporting the COVID-19 pandemic suffered. Health checks could not be carried out due to the government’s restricted mobility.
The IQVIA Institute for Human Data Science announced that the number of mammograms performed in 2020 and the final months of 2021 is 87 percent lower than in 2019.
The delay in screenings has led medical experts to predict that at least 5,000 new cases of breast cancer will be recorded this year in Arizona alone. Nearly 900 deaths in Arizona this year will also be attributable to undetected or late detection of breast cancer.
Time and place for the planned Buds ‘n’ Bras campaign events
The breast screening events take place in Mint’s pharmacies. The “Check For A Lump” group sets up their devices on site. However, the group will conduct the screenings on board their mobile mammography bus. Cones for a Cause was another breast cancer cannabis swap that took place recently.
Campaign organizers have announced that patients can call to plan their screening time in advance. The number to call is (480) 967-3767 (as shown on the official campaign announcement board).
The first screening will take place on Saturday, September 18, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mint’s Phoenix. The screening of the Mesa location will take place simultaneously on Saturday, October 9th.
The Mint group will post information on how interested people can participate in the upcoming Check for a Lump Pink Out 5k walk / run, scheduled to take place on Saturday October 2nd. The place where this will take place is the Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix. The mint’s dispensary says there will be a booth at the event where free pre-rolled joints can be collected after new and carefully used bras have been donated. The campaign organizers seem to have thought out every event.
The campaign started with a bra ceremony on August 27th. It was held at The Mint’s location in Tempe / Guadalupe with the support of the non-profit group Check for a Lump.
When a bra is cleared, breast cancer patients and survivors lift their bras and hand them on a string. The Buds ‘N’ Bras launch included a moment when the Arizona breast cancer patients and survivors hung a row of bras across the parking lot of the Mint’s Tempe pharmacy.
The chain spokesman The Mint Dispensary said there’s nothing like watching dozens and dozen of bras on a string dance in the wind. The cannabis plant itself is also being studied as a remedy for breast cancer patients.
So far, so good
The Buds ‘n’ Bras campaign got off to a great start. In the last four weeks of the campaign, more than eight large plastic garbage bags were filled with new and carefully used bras. The spokesman said that each bag had to be lifted by two people as it was too heavy for one person to lift comfortably.
Everything indicates that the response to the campaign has been just wonderful.
The director of the Arizona Chapter of Mint Pharmacies, Rudy Molina, said the essence of the Mint Cannabis brand is giving back to the communities they serve. Rudy emphasized the brand’s willingness to serve nonprofit groups that want to help and support patients, victims, and survivors of cancer, war, mental disorders, and seizures.
Molina ended her email by begging well-meaning Arizona residents to put their calm down by gifting the campaign with a new or fairly used bra.
Bottom line
The Buds ‘n’ Bras campaign is a creative way for cannabis users to give back to the health society while supporting one of the top local causes this year.
So, if you live in Arizona and have replacement bras that can be donated, don’t hesitate to visit the listed mint dispensaries to donate those bras in exchange for a dope reward.
You can also arrange a breast screening with the number given in the article.
