Does marijuana really make you feel good?

There are stories circulating about marijuana that it is an aphrodisiac. For most users, cannabis enhances the senses, puts you in a relaxed state, and provides a feeling of connection with your partner. A relaxing evening can be fun, but does marijuana really make you feel better?

Cannabis is closely linked to Hindu culture in many ways – it has been in India since the fourth century BC. It is a traditional folk medicine and is still widely known there as an aphrodisiac. The plant was used in tantric sex and yoga practices associated with the goddess Kali as early as 700 AD.

In a study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, women had sex an average of 7.1 times per month when using marijuana, while men had sex 6.9 times per month. Those who abstained completely? For women it was 6 times per month and for men 5.6 times per month.

What happens? THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana, releases dopamine in the brain. Dopamine acts as a neurotransmitter and mimics anandamide, the naturally occurring neurochemical. And in intimacy, and is a buffet full of feel-good goods.

Increased stamina

Marijuana appears to delay ejaculation in most men. There isn’t enough data, but it suggests that cannabis reduces stress and allows your brain to “just go with the flow.” Marijuana also creates the feeling of time slowing down, allowing the user to be more in the moment.

Reach an orgasm

About a third of American women report difficulty achieving orgasm with a male partner. When cannabis is consumed, it activates a receptor in your endocannabinoid system, providing physical and mental stimulation. According to Dr. Mitch Earleywine, professor of psychology at the State University of New York: “The CB1 receptor appears to be involved in enhanced tactile sensations and general euphoria.”

Intensify orgasms

Again, there isn’t much research, so the data is unclear. However, the intensity of sexual activity increases under the influence of cannabis, especially in women. Dr. Earleywine attributes this feeling to the CB1 receptor’s ability to convert the THC into a more tactile experience. The euphoric feeling lasts longer, or at least it gives the impression that the orgasm lasts longer. And whether perception or reality, the smile is the same.

Eliminate stress

Anxiety and stress are sex killers. For most people, marijuana is a stress reliever and calms your active brain. There’s nothing worse than trying to enjoy an intimate moment when you’re stressed about your job or your bank account.

A word of warning

Chronic, long-term cannabis use can lead to reduced motivation in some people. And unfortunately that also includes sexual activity.
