Distant relative of Donald Trump has just opened an LSD store in Berlin

If someone tells you that a relative of former President Donald Trump opened a legal LSD store in Berlin, you might find it hard to believe. But as strange as it seems, it’s all true.

Carl Philipp Trump, who claims to be a very distant relative of the former president, recently discovered a loophole in the law that allowed him to open the country’s first legal psychedelics shop. In March, Trump opened LSD.store, a physical retail space and online retail site that sells legal acid in dosages from 10 microgram microdose tabs to 150 microgram extra dosage pills.

But instead of selling the traditional lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), which is illegal in Germany, LSD.store sells 1CP-LSD, a new analogue of traditional LSD that produces similar psychedelic effects. Few researchers have actually studied this new creation, but some believe it is a prodrug, a non-psychoactive compound that the body converts to real LSD after consuming it.

Trump first discovered the therapeutic potential of psychedelics after struggling with depression. “I lost a lot of money [investing in bitcoin], my girlfriend broke up with me – I really thought I ruined my life, ”Trump told VICE. Traditional antidepressants and therapies proved of little help, but Trump eventually found relief on a psychedelic retreat in the Netherlands.

“With LSD I was able to put everything into perspective,” explained Trump. “And I thought, ‘This is something I want to share.’ I wanted a place where you can meet other people and talk about this extraordinary experience. “

Since Trump couldn’t legally buy LSD at home in Germany, he soon discovered that it was perfectly legal to import 1CP-LSD from the Netherlands. And after consulting a lawyer, he also learned that it would also be completely legal for him to resell this new drug to other adults.

In the United States, 1CP-LSD and similar analogs are banned under the Federal Analogue Act, a 1986 law that prohibits personal use of drugs that are chemically similar to an existing controlled substance. In Germany, however, there is no similar blanket law, so LSD.store could legally sell this new drug without fear of legal consequences.

That means until this week. German lawmakers just criminalized 1CP-LSD, which is a pretty serious barrier to Trump’s business plan. The entrepreneur is now hoping that Lizard Labs, the Dutch company it sources its supplies from, will develop a new LSD analog that can circumvent the existing ban while still offering the same psychedelic effects.

However, like the US, Germany could ban all analogues of LSD, which would dash these hopes. If that happens, Trump said he could move to Russia, Poland, or any other country where those connections are still legal. “Poland is a very conservative country, so we want to try to politicize people through LSD so that they are more critical of institutions like the church,” Trump told VICE.
