Deputy fends off five armed robbers at St. Vincent’s pharmacy

The cannabis industry in the Caribbean reflects the danger of the US cash industry and the lure for criminals given the large amounts of cannabis and cash. In the city of Vermont (not to be confused with the U.S. state) on the island nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in the Caribbean, five suspected armed robbers were thwarted by a deputy guard at a pharmacy on Friday, January 27. Thanks to quick thinking and quick action, the perpetrators were caught at the scene of the crime in the middle of the robbery.

Green Lava Labs is a medicinal cannabis company and dispensary based in the Queensbury area of Vermont. As one of the first Class C license holders in the country, a large supply of cannabis and a steady cash flow made it a prime target.

The St. Vincent Times reports that five men, one with a gun and another with a ‘cutlass’, allegedly entered the pharmacy around 2am, injuring at least one person. The five attackers allegedly tried to break into the pharmacy’s storage area. But a deputy from an armed security agency was quickly dispatched, returned fire and forced the robbers to flee before they could get away with the loot.

“Our armed security agent directly attacked the bandits, fired several shots, after which the bandits fled without being able to enter the building and storage rooms,” said Sheriff PSS Inc.

A deputy was promptly dispatched to the premises within 15 minutes while the suspects were still at the scene, officials said.

“Operations Control was contacted and our Executive Director Mr. Jason Greene and Operations Commander Mr. Cox responded immediately to provide additional support. The police [were] contacted within 15 minutes and responded promptly,” the press release said.

A caretaker who was on the premises was injured in the incident.

“The caretaker who lives on the property was injured during the incident and was taken to Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for medical attention by Sheriff PSS Inc.,” the report continued.

“The Sheriff takes this opportunity to remind the nation that as SVG’s only tactical security agency, we are serious about protecting assets. We stand ready to serve the citizen and business community as the number one source for reliable, competent and efficient asset protection agents and security solutions.”

Government officials at SVG issued the first medical cannabis cultivation licenses in 2019.

Green Lava Labs is a leader in the Caribbean

Green Lava Labs was founded on November 15th, 2019 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Green Lava was among the first companies to be licensed in the country to grow Class C medical marijuana. The license allows them to extract, import, export, dispense and grow up to 25 hectares of cannabis.

Green Lava has a capacity of over 8,000 pounds of cannabis per year and plans in the future to reach the full capacity of its 25 acres permit, which should allow the Company to produce over 35,000 pounds of cannabis per year.

The company’s opening ceremony was significant enough for Prime Minister Dr. to dress Ralph E. Gonsalves; Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar; a senior official of the Medicinal Cannabis Authority; and officials attend.

The company offers flowers, pre-rolls, CBD-infused products, and more.

The company also has other locations, including one in Jamaica.

Business in SVG’s medical cannabis industry is booming again, Treasury Secretary Camillo Gonsalves reported earlier this year. This follows a slow, disheartening period due to COVID pandemic restrictions and the devastation caused by the La Soufriere volcanic eruption.
