Whether your preferences favor indica, sativa, or hybrid concentrates, there are plenty of options to choose from when choosing a nice dab.
If you’re looking for a potent deep dab that hits like a freight train, there’s no better way to consume marijuana.
Dab CBD vs. Eat CBD
Most cannabinoid users are familiar with CBD as a popular supplement. Walk down the aisles of any health food store or pharmacy and you’ll find that it’s sold in pill or tincture form.
They come from CBD oil or isolate and work well once ingested.
Consuming CBD in this way is an effective way to experience its many health benefits, although it’s certainly not the quickest.
Before cannabinoids can benefit from pain-relieving, stress-relieving, or anti-inflammatory effects, they must travel long distances to the small intestine.
The cannabinoid is absorbed in the intestine and transported to the liver. The liver must then break down the cannabinoid before it can be released into the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream, it can bind to the body’s cannabinoid receptors. Although the diet regime can provide relief over a period of time, it offers little immediate relief.
As most consumers know, the lungs are the fastest route into the bloodstream when it comes to cannabinoids. Consumers are turning to CBD vapes for a quick hit on medication, just as many are doing with THC.
However, as with THC, anyone who has tried dabs and vapes will attest that vapes can come close to the dab experience but never seem to get there. For medical patients or anyone looking for a faster response at higher doses, tapping CBD is the best answer.
The good news is that dapping CBD doesn’t require much (if any) new equipment for those already familiar with concentrates.
A dab rig or wax pen works the same way with CBD concentrate as it does with THC concentrate, so no additional equipment is required.
Different types of CBD concentrate
Here are some tips on which forms of CBD are best for dabbing.
CBD oil and tincture
You cannot dab CBD oil or tincture. It doesn’t work at all, and you’ll just end up scraping burnt olive oil, coconut oil, or some other oil off your dab nails. This can be confusing as some CBD oils used for consumption are labeled as “CBD extracts” and the same term is used for some CBD distillates and full-spectrum CBD extracts.
Be aware that whatever you vape should be nothing but pure cannabinoids and terpenes. If there is anything else in there then don’t blot it or it could lead to serious health problems.
CBD extract/distillate
This is similar to what you find in CBD vape cartridges.
This term can cover a range of CBD extracts with different viscosities and manifestations.
Similar to THC extracts, there are multiple methods to extract, refine, and remove impurities such as plant matter and lipids.
Hibernation and distillation are the most popular methods of making these extracts. Some methods reintroduce terpenes after refining. Please make sure that the products you buy are specifically designed for dabbing.
These extracts can be applied to nails or similar wax sticks, which we will discuss in more detail below.
CBD Wax & Shatter
As with dabbing THC concentrate, you need to have your dab rig, torch, waxing tool, and concentrate ready to go before you begin.
Heat the nail with the butane torch for about twenty seconds until it glows orange.
Your goal is to reach a temperature of around 800-900 degrees Fahrenheit.
Then leave it on for about 60 seconds before bringing your loaded dab tool into contact with the nail.
Of course, the temperature depends on the thickness of the nail/banger and the material it is made of.
Wave the tool around the edge of the nail so as not to lose concentration. Then cover with a car cap and continue inhaling.
CBD starts to activate at about 20 degrees Fahrenheit (about 10 degrees Celsius change) higher than THC. So make sure the temperature is at least above 320 degrees Fahrenheit (140 degrees Celsius), the temperature at which CBD starts to vaporize.
However, most CBD waxes and crumbs are full-spectrum, which makes calculating ideal heat requirements a bit more complicated. If it’s full-spectrum and you want all the flavors, a lower temperature around 320-350 degrees Celsius (160-177 Fahrenheit) is preferable.
This makes for a smoother smoke and vaporizes all those tasty and beneficial terpenes with the CBD to deliver the full entourage effect.
If you’re picky about flavor and effects, buy a nail or laser thermometer to make sure the temperature is just right.
If you’re looking for massive billowing clouds and don’t care too much about the terpenes, then dab at 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit (177-205 degrees Celsius). Dabbing at more than 400 degrees will result in the faucet burning completely and losing many of the good connections.
Be sure to clean your nails after use to prevent buildup. Once cool, blot the inside of the nails to remove any residue. You can use a cotton swab dipped in some isopropyl alcohol to make it easier.
CBD isolate
Due to the benefits of the entourage effect, it’s better to buy full-spectrum CBD concentrates like waxes or shatter, but you can use CBD isolate.
Isolate can pack a massive CBD hit on its own, and it can also help balance and complement some THC products.
Because of its consistency, isolate can be a bit difficult to manipulate with dab tools, so it’s often recommended to use a dish coil on the rig or a donut coil on a wax pen.
CBD slabs are often better for dabbing as they are easier to handle with dabbing tools and less messy than isolate powder. You also have more freedom with temperature since you don’t have to worry about losing terpenes and flavonoids with isolate.
Isolate tends to taste a little like cough syrup. And as we mentioned, since you don’t have to worry about losing terpenes to higher temperatures, you can go as high as 40 degrees for heavier clouds if that’s what you prefer. Try to avoid anything higher as you will get a hashish smoking experience.
Final Thoughts
By following these tips, you can expand your bad repertoire and enjoy the fast and effective effects of CBD to heal whatever ailments you have. Overall, dabbing with CBD isn’t all that different from using THC concentrate.
