The study, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, found that eating avocados reduced the likelihood of heart disease by 21% compared to people who didn’t consume avocados.

The researchers followed 68,000 women and 41,000 men over a 30-year period. They found that avocados have heart-healthy properties and produce better results than foods like eggs, yogurt, and butter. According to the study, eating avocado instead of these foods reduced the risk of heart disease from 22% to 16%.
“The full benefit of routine avocado consumption observed here comes from swapping avocado into the diet and less healthy foods,” said Dr. David Katz, a specialist in preventative and lifestyle medicine and nutrition, told CNN. Katz explained that while avocados are healthy, tasty, and filling, they’re expensive and therefore not as easily available as other foods. He suggested foods like walnuts, almonds, and olive oil that could provide similar results. More easily accessible foods like lentils, chickpeas, and beans would also bring benefits in the same direction.
