Cannavita Pharmacy offers world-class cannabis hospitality
What makes a great restaurant experience? The food, of course. Service is also a priority. And the room itself cannot be missed.
Astoria, Queens, is full of world-class restaurants, from Greek to Vietnamese to Venezuelan. Earlier this year, cannabis was put on the menu with the opening of a handful of legal dispensaries. One of the best is Cannavita Dispensary at 30-30 Steinway Street.
Cannavita CEO Allie Carney and owner Marko Popovic met years ago while working in the New York restaurant industry. They learned how to offer their guests an unforgettable culinary experience. Now they have a fleet of local Queens budtenders working with them to apply the same hospitality principles when purchasing cannabis.
“Every brand has a story. We want to offer Astoria the best possible products from the cannabis market.”
Marko Popovic, co-owner of Cannavita
Cannavita is on a street full of restaurants and shops. For commuters and connoisseurs on the go, they enable quick work on a busy day. Cannavita's menu offers consumers hundreds of choices across flower and pre-rolls, edibles, vaporizers and concentrates, including brands such as Electraleaf, Chef For Higher, KIVA, Aeterna and Blotter. Their team is also largely Queens-based, adding a local touch to guests looking for recommendations.

“Marko and I have known each other for so many years; We come from the catering industry, so now finally something [where] We can put that customer service into action – none of it is lost on us.”
Allie Carney, manager at Cannavita
Popovic received his CAURD license alongside a silent partner who had previously been charged with cannabis. Both he and Carney emphasize that equity and social justice are a large part of the Cananvita model. Cannavita partners with justice-focused organizations like the Last Prisoner Project and hosts regular social events to improve locals' experiences with cannabis.
“Priority will be given to people who are committed to justice and whose lives have been burned by the war on drugs. We want to make sure we contribute to this effort.”
Allie Carney, manager at Cannavita
Beyond Cannavita, Carney and Popovic encourage locals and visitors to enjoy the full Astoria experience when they visit. There's an endless list of restaurants, riverside parks, and museums (we love the Museum of the Moving Image, an interactive museum celebrating cinema, television, and visual media) nearby.
As Cannavita's one-year anniversary approaches in spring 2025, Carney says the dispensary's ethos is to be the best in the business and foster a sense of “peace, community and comfort” for everyone who walks through the door.
